[...] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.\" - Luke 12:32-34\nFeria of Passiontide\n2026-03-26 - Passiontide - Feria - violet\nPLAIN-LANGUAGE GUIDE FOR TODAY\nCompunction: sorrow for sin that pierces the heart and moves a person toward repentance rather than despair.\nPassion of Christ: the sufferings and death Jesus freely accepted for our salvation, from His agony in Gethsemane through His Crucifixion.\nFeria: a weekday without a higher feast of its own; its prayers usually follow the current liturgical season.\nTODAY IN THE ROMAN YEAR\nHumiliation, opposition, and penance do not mean that God has ceased to govern. Our Lord redeemed the world through His obedient suffering on the Cross. When Catholics accept unavoidable trials without sin, perform penance, and continue obeying the truth, those sufferings can humble pride and deepen fidelity rather than lead to despair. Ask that every practice be performed with pure intention, attention, devotion, modesty, and edifying reverence. Consecrate intention, attention, pace, posture, and perseverance to God through Our Lady before beginning the day's prayers and duties.\n\n\"There are a quantity of other practices of true devotion towards the Blessed Virgin which the Holy Ghost has inspired into saintly souls, and which are very sanctifying; [...] provided they are performed as they ought to be; that is to say; (1) with a good and pure intention to please God only, to unite ourselves to Jesus Christ as to our Last End, and to edify our neighbour; (2) with attention, and without voluntary distraction; (3) with devotion, equally avoiding precipitation or negligence; (4) with modesty, and a respectful and edifying care of the postures of the body.\"\nSt. Louis-Marie de Montfort, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, no. 117\n\nThe multiplication of practices does not sanctify automatically. St. Louis de Montfort judges how they are performed: the intention seeks God, union with Jesus, and the neighbor's edification; the mind rejects voluntary distraction; the act avoids both hurried carelessness and negligent delay; the body expresses modest, respectful worship.\n\nApply these standards throughout devotion rather than merely to favored prayers. Prepare before beginning, pronounce prayers attentively, correct wandering without discouragement, keep reverent posture according to health and circumstance, fulfill obligations punctually, and refuse display. Quality does not excuse spiritual minimalism; it governs the generous practice of the whole Catholic rule.\n\nPRACTICE\nShow reverence for the Holy Sacrifice in thought, word, and conduct, and pray for souls misled by false worship.\n\nQUOTE OF THE DAY\n\"If it sometimes wander and withdraw itself from Him, do not much disquiet yourself for that: trouble and disquiet serve rather to distract the mind than to re-collect it: the will must bring it back in tranquility.\"\nBrother Lawrence of the Resurrection, The Practice of the Presence of God: The Best Rule of a Holy Life, Eighth Letter\n\nROMAN MARTYROLOGY - March 26\nAt Rome, on the Lavican road, St. Castulus, martyr, chamberlain in the palace of the emperor. For harboring the Christians, he was three times suspended by the hands, three times cited before the tribunals, and as he persevered in the confession of the Lord, he was thrown into a pit, overwhelmed with a mass of sand, and thus obtained the crown of martyrdom. — In the same city, the crowning of the holy martyrs Peter, Marcian, Jovinus, Thee! a, Cassian, and others. — At Pentapolis, in Lybia, the birthday of the holy martyrs Theodore, bishop, Irenaeus, deacon, Serapion and Ammonius, lectors. — At Sirmium, the holy martyrs Montanus, priest, and Maxima, who were cast into a river for the faith of Christ. — Also, the holy martyrs Quadratus, Theodosius, Emmanuel, and forty others. — At Alexandria, the holy martyrs Eutychius and others, who died by the sword for the Catholic faith, in the time of Constantine, under the Arian bishop George. — The same day, St. Ludger, bishop of Munster, who preached the Gospel to the Saxons. — At Saragossa, in Spain, St. Braulio, bishop and confessor. — At Treves, St. Felix, bishop.\n\nTODAY'S SAINT OR FEAST\nThe Passiontide Feria\nThe veiled days near the Passion of Our Lord.\nThe ferias of Passiontide draw the faithful nearer to the sufferings of Christ, when the Church's prayer grows more grave and the Cross comes into sharper view.\nThese days teach that the Passion is not only remembered on Good Friday. The soul is led step by step into compunction, reparation, silence, and fidelity to the rejected Messias.\nWalk more quietly now. Passiontide teaches the exile to stay near Christ when His glory is veiled and His enemies gather.\nBREVIARY WITNESS\nNearer to the rejected Christ.\nMatins - Feria of Passiontide\n- The Passiontide ferias draw the faithful more directly toward the sufferings and rejection of Our Lord.\n- Their witness teaches silence, compunction, reparation, and steadfastness before the mystery of Christ opposed by sinners.\nDo not flee the veiled days. Nearness to the Passion teaches the soul how to remain faithful when Christ is contradicted.\nInstruction from the Breviary\nThe Breviary witness for Feria of Passiontide is part of the Church's daily teaching. It should not be read as a list of isolated facts. In the Divine Office, Scripture, the lives of the saints, doctrine, and the Church's prayer are placed together so that the mind learns what the Church remembers and the heart learns how a Catholic ought to judge and live.\nToday's witness is gathered under Nearer to the rejected Christ.. Its first point is this: The Passiontide ferias draw the faithful more directly toward the sufferings and rejection of Our Lord. Its next point develops the lesson: Their witness teaches silence, compunction, reparation, and steadfastness before the mystery of Christ opposed by sinners.\nThe practical instruction is: Do not flee the veiled days. Nearness to the Passion teaches the soul how to remain faithful when Christ is contradicted. Ask what truth is being guarded, what virtue is being praised, and what danger or forgetfulness is being corrected. In this way the Breviary becomes instruction for the present day rather than information that is quickly passed over.\n- What truth does this Breviary witness teach or defend?\n- What virtue does the Church place before me through it?\n- What judgment or action should change because I have received this lesson?\n\nTHE PILGRIM'S SPIRITUAL CONFERENCE\nTrue Devotion to Mary Forms the Soul in Christ\nThe Church places this truth before you today: True Marian devotion is not sentiment detached from obedience. It brings the soul more deeply under Christ's rule. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Our Lady does not compete with her Son. She forms servants who hear Him, believe Him, and remain beneath His Cross.\nThe grace to be practiced is Compunction and reparation, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice reverent integrity by uniting pure intention, sustained attention, unhurried devotion, modest posture, and edification of others.\nThere is also an enemy to recognize: Resist false Marian devotion that seeks comfort, novelty, or emotion without conversion. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing compunction and reparation when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.\nDo the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Bear the effort of recollecting the mind and governing the body without abandoning prayer because attention is difficult or consolation absent. Perform the full range of prayer, duty, penance, and charity deliberately, neither rushing through holy things nor neglecting them.\nThe Church's witness: this truth manifests the Church's mark of holy; the witness placed beside it is St. Louis-Marie de Montfort.\nYour resolution before God: Show reverence for the Holy Sacrifice in thought, word, and conduct, and pray for souls misled by false worship.\nCarry this word: False worship wounds souls because worship forms belief.\nTHE PILGRIM'S MIRROR\n\"Ask not who said this, but take heed what is said.\"\nThomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ, Book I, chapter 5, p. 14\nTruth does not become true through fashion, applause, or a celebrated name. Test what you hear by revelation and the perennial teaching of the Church.\n\nYet Thomas à Kempis also rebukes the curiosity that collects authorities without receiving their doctrine. Listen for the truth God is giving through a trustworthy witness, and then permit that truth to correct you. A holy author's name should not become decoration around an unchanged life.\nToday's Practice: Reject claims based on novelty or popularity and ask what the Church has always taught.\nDAILY EXAMEN\nExamine intention, voluntary distraction, precipitation, negligence, modesty, and edification across every practice and duty.\n- For what grace or mercy should I thank God today?\n- What sin, fault, neglected duty, or resistance to grace must I confess?\n- What definite amendment will I carry into tomorrow?\nPRAYER\nO Lord, give me holy fear before Thy altar. Preserve me from casualness, invention, and every worship that weakens faith in Thy sacrifice.\nDAILY RULE FOR THE PILGRIM\nA brief rule to keep every day:\nBegin with morning prayer\nAdore the Blessed Trinity and offer the whole day to Jesus through Mary before other duties claim the mind.\nKeep the Angelus\nPause morning, noon, and evening to remember the Incarnation.\nSeek Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament\nAttend Holy Mass when duty permits; otherwise make a Spiritual Communion and renew desire for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.\nReturn to Jesus and Mary\nUse frequent holy aspirations during work, waiting, suffering, and temptation.\nPray the Rosary\nKeep the mysteries of Christ before the mind with Our Lady and learn to imitate what they contain.\nEnd with night prayer and examen\nGive thanks, confess faults, forgive injuries, make a practical amendment, and entrust the night to Our Lady.\nCONTINUE STUDY\nTrue Devotion to Mary: https://cityofgodinexile.com/mary-and-the-typologies-of-the-church/true-devotion-to-mary-not-sentiment-but-formation-in-christ?entered=1\nOpen this day in the Sacred Calendar: https://cityofgodinexile.com/sacred-calendar?date=2026-03-26&entered=1\nOpen this day's Daily Pilgrimage: https://cityofgodinexile.com/daily-dispatch?date=2026-03-26&entered=1\nBrowse the Formation Index: https://cityofgodinexile.com/daily-dispatch/formation?entered=1","html":"<!doctype html>\n<html lang=\"en\">\n <head>\n <meta charSet=\"utf-8\" />\n <meta name=\"viewport\" content=\"width=device-width, initial-scale=1\" />\n <title>City of God in Exile: Feria of Passiontide - 2026-03-26</title>\n </head>\n <body style=\"margin: 0; padding: 0; background: #0b1423;\">\n <div style=\"display: none; max-height: 0; overflow: hidden; opacity: 0;\">\n Feria of Passiontide. In this way the Breviary becomes instruction for the present day rather than information that is quickly passed over.</p>\n <ul style=\"margin: 0; padding-left: 22px;\">\n <li style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\">What truth does this Breviary witness teach or defend?</li><li style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\">What virtue does the Church place before me through it?</li><li style=\"margin: 0 0 8px;\">What judgment or action should change because I have received this lesson?</li>\n </ul></div>\n </div>\n \n \n <div style=\"padding: 20px 0; border-top: 1px solid #d9bf8b;\">\n <p style=\"margin: 0 0 8px; color: #7a5a21; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bold; letter-spacing: 1.2px; text-transform: uppercase;\">The Pilgrim&#39;s Spiritual Conference</p>\n <div style=\"color: #3a2a18; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.55;\"><h2 style=\"margin: 0 0 12px; color: #24180d; font-size: 25px; line-height: 1.1;\">True Devotion to Mary Forms the Soul in Christ</h2>\n <p style=\"margin: 0 0 12px;\">The Church places this truth before you today: True Marian devotion is not sentiment detached from obedience. It brings the soul more deeply under Christ&#39;s rule. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Our Lady does not compete with her Son. She forms servants who hear Him, believe Him, and remain beneath His Cross.</p><p style=\"margin: 0 0 12px;\">The grace to be practiced is Compunction and reparation, drawn from today&#39;s saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice reverent integrity by uniting pure intention, sustained attention, unhurried devotion, modest posture, and edification of others.</p><p style=\"margin: 0 0 12px;\">There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist false Marian devotion that seeks comfort, novelty, or emotion without conversion. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing compunction and reparation when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.</p><p style=\"margin: 0 0 12px;\">Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God&#39;s wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady&#39;s hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Perform the full range of prayer, duty, penance, and charity deliberately, neither rushing through holy things nor neglecting them.</p>\n <div style=\"margin-top: 14px; padding: 13px 15px; border-left: 3px solid #8c682a; background: #efe0bc;\"><p style=\"margin: 0 0 12px;\">The Church&#39;s witness: this truth manifests the Church&#39;s mark of holy; the witness placed beside it is St. Louis-Marie de Montfort.</p></div>\n <h2 style=\"margin: 18px 0 8px; color: #24180d; font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.1;\">Your Resolution Before God</h2>\n <p style=\"margin: 0 0 12px;\">Show reverence for the Holy Sacrifice in thought, word, and conduct, and pray for souls misled by false worship.</p>\n <blockquote style=\"margin: 16px 0 8px; padding: 12px 14px; border-left: 3px solid #8c682a; background: #efe0bc; color: #24180d; font-size: 19px; line-height: 1.45;\">False worship wounds souls because worship forms belief.</blockquote></div>\n </div>\n \n <div style=\"padding: 20px 0; border-top: 1px solid #d9bf8b;\">\n <p style=\"margin: 0 0 8px; color: #7a5a21; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12px; font-weight: bold; letter-spacing: 1.2px; text-transform: uppercase;\">The Pilgrim&#39;s Mirror</p>\n <div style=\"color: #3a2a18; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.55;\"><h2 style=\"margin: 0 0 8px; color: #24180d; font-size: 25px; line-height: 1.1;\">How shall I imitate Christ today?</h2>\n <blockquote style=\"margin: 0 0 8px; padding: 12px 14px; border-left: 3px solid #8c682a; background: #efe0bc; color: #24180d; font-size: 19px; line-height: 1.45;\">&ldquo;Ask not who said this, but take heed what is said.&rdquo;</blockquote>\n <p style=\"margin: 0 0 14px; color: #5d4320; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.45;\">Thomas à Kempis, <em>The Imitation of Christ</em>, Book I, chapter 5, p. 14</p>\n \n <p style=\"margin: 0 0 12px;\">Truth does not become true through fashion, applause, or a celebrated name.
