Dedication

A gate in the exiled city.

A necessary gate in the life of the City of God.

A soul praying beneath the station where Jesus meets His Blessed Mother

This work, City of God in Exile, is humbly laid at the feet of the Most Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, from Whom all truth proceeds, by Whom is sustained, and to Whom all glory must return.

It is consecrated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest and King of kings, burning furnace of and inexhaustible source of mercy. Beneath His Kingship, may every word serve truth, every warning serve , and every soul be drawn more faithfully to His altar.

It is offered with filial love to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, who met her Son upon the way of the Cross, stood faithful beneath Him on , and remains the most image of in her Passion: sorrowful, obedient, maternal, and unconquered. May she receive this work as a small offering placed beneath her mantle, and use whatever good is found in it for the glory of her Divine Son.

It is entrusted to St. Joseph, Terror of Demons and Protector of the , who guards the hidden life of Christ, shelters the household of faith, and teaches quiet fidelity when the world is loud with rebellion.

It is placed under the protection of St. Michael the Archangel, Prince of the Heavenly Host, who casts down Satan, defends in battle, and stands guard over souls in the hour of trial.

It is also entrusted with gratitude to my guardian angel, whose hidden fidelity and protection are among the quiet mercies of God. May this work be guarded from error, , confusion, and every influence that would turn it away from the service of truth.

It is commended to St. Francis de Sales, doctor of and fearless confessor of Catholic truth, whose meekness never bartered with error, and whose clarity labored to draw souls out of and back into the one fold of Christ.

It remembers St. Barbara, virgin and martyr, asking her intercession that souls may be preserved from sudden death, strengthened in , not left without the helps of , and granted perseverance unto the end.

It remembers also the holy souls in purgatory, especially the most forgotten and abandoned, whose prayers and assistance have been invoked for this work. In particular, it remembers with tenderness my beloved son, who was helped in life by the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the true , the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Joseph, St. Barbara, all the angels and saints, and the prayers offered for him. May the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ refresh his soul and all of the souls of the faithful departed, purify them, and bring them swiftly into the light of the Beatific Vision.

It is offered also in grateful affection for the faithful Pius bishop, who helped give me a love of Scripture and taught me to see the Faith as one coherent whole, luminous, certain, and impossible to doubt when received as gives it. I remember also with gratitude the holy priests who continue to teach souls with , preserve Catholic doctrine, suffer contradiction from the , and support the faithful by their instruction, prayers, sacrifices, and priestly . May Our Lady keep them faithful beneath the Cross, and may the souls they teach be strengthened in truth, , and perseverance.

It remembers with gratitude my son, whose labor gave this work a visible home.

It is offered also for my family, with a mother's tenderness and hope, asking the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary to draw each one back to the City of God in exile: back to truth without fear, to the true Faith without compromise, to the true where they may be lawfully found, and to the peace that comes only from belonging wholly to Christ and His . May no wound, confusion, distance, or keep them from the light God desires to give.

If a personal word may be permitted, it is this: whatever good is intended in these pages is intended from love of souls. This work is written for the misled, the wounded, the scattered, the weary, and those left half-famished in a time of confusion; for souls who still desire truth, the true Mass, the true , and the safe way of Christ's . May they find here not flattery, but light; not novelty, but fidelity; not , but saving mercy.

May all who enter here be fortified in truth, preserved from error, strengthened in sacrifice, and brought more deeply under the maternal care of Our Lady, that they may suffer faithfully with in her Passion and one day rejoice with her in glory.

Given on the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Friday in Passion Week, March 27, 2026.
