THE DAILY PILGRIMAGE
"Now therefore, ye children, hear me: Blessed are they that keep my ways." - Proverbs 8:32
"Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom. [...] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." - Luke 12:32-34

PLAIN-LANGUAGE GUIDE FOR TODAY
Penance: repentance expressed through prayer, self-denial, reparation, and a real turning away from sin.
TODAY IN THE ROMAN YEAR
Christ is risen, has ascended in His glorified humanity, and reigns in Heaven. The Church and her members still suffer on earth, but their trials do not overturn His victory. Christian hope is therefore more than an encouraging feeling: it trusts Christ's promise of resurrection and eternal life and gives the faithful a reason to persevere in obedience today. Receive the ancient witnesses St. Louis de Montfort gathers concerning Mary's spiritual maternity and service within God's order of grace. Thank God for Our Lady's divine and spiritual maternity and receive every grace as Christ's gift ministered within His holy order.

"‘Mary has two sons, the one a God-man, the other, mere man. She is Mother of the first corporally and of the second spiritually’ (St. Bonaventure and Origen). ‘This is the will of God who willed that we should have all things through Mary. If then, we possess any hope or grace or gift of salvation, let us acknowledge that it comes to us through her’ (St. Bernard)."
St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, no. 141

St. Louis de Montfort places his doctrine within inherited Catholic witness rather than private invention. The cited texts confess Mary's true divine maternity toward the God-man and her spiritual maternity toward Christ's members, together with the grateful recognition that gifts of salvation reach us through her subordinate maternal office.

These words never make Mary the source of divinity, grace, merit, or salvation. God alone is the first cause; Jesus Christ alone redeems and merits in strict justice; Mary receives everything and ministers within His will. Honor the cited witness by rejecting both rationalist dismissal and language that would detach her activity from Christ.

PRACTICE
Practice every virtue the day requires, giving particular attention to the virtue most opposed by your habitual fault.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"Pray without intermission."
Holy Scripture, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Original Douay-Rheims

ROMAN MARTYROLOGY - April 19
The birthday of St. Timon, one of the first seven deacons, who taught first at Berea. Afterwards while preaching the word of the Lord at Corinth, he was delivered to the flames by the Jews and the Greeks; but remaining uninjured, he ended his martyrdom by crucifixion. — At Melitine, in Armenia, the holy martyrs Hermogenes, Caius, Expeditus, Aristonicus, Rufus and Galatas, crowned on the same day. — At Collioure, in Spain, the holy martyr Vincent. — The same day, the holy martyrs Socrates and Denis, who were tarnspierced with lances. — At Jerusalem, St. Paphnutius, martyr. — At Canterbury, in England, St. Elphege, bishop and martyr. — At Antioch, in Pisidia, St. George, a bishop, who died in exile for the worship of sacred images. — At Rome, pope St. Leo IX., illustrious for his virtues and miracles. — In the monastery of Lobbes, St. Ursmar, bishop. — At Florence, St. Crescent, confessor, disciple of the blessed bishop Zenobius.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY
I am the good shepherd.
Second Sunday after Easter - John 10:11-16
"The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep."
Let yourself be shepherded. The sheep is not safe by being clever, but by staying near the voice that gave itself for him.

THE CHURCH'S READING OF THE GOSPEL
What This Gospel Teaches
Christ shepherds by sacrifice, not by hireling self-preservation.
The sheep know His voice and are gathered into one fold.
Error corrected: The hireling spirit that abandons souls when fidelity becomes costly.
- Where does this error tempt me in practice?
- What act does this Gospel require of me today?

TODAY'S SAINT OR FEAST
Second Sunday after Easter
The Good Shepherd knows His sheep.
The Second Sunday after Easter places the faithful under Christ the Good Shepherd, who lays down His life for the sheep.
The day teaches that the Church is not a crowd gathered by feeling, but a flock held by the voice, sacrifice, and authority of the Shepherd.
In exile, do not confuse isolation with fidelity. The sheep live by knowing the Shepherd's voice and staying within His truth.
BREVIARY WITNESS
The Good Shepherd lays down His life.
Matins - Second Sunday after Easter
- The office of the Second Sunday after Easter contemplates Christ as the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep and gives His life for them.
- Its witness teaches that the flock is gathered by sacrifice, voice, doctrine, and authority; the sheep are safe by hearing and following Him.
Do not wander under the name of freedom. The sheep live by the Shepherd's voice, especially when many strange voices call.
Instruction from the Breviary
The Breviary witness for Second Sunday after Easter is part of the Church's daily teaching. It should not be read as a list of isolated facts. In the Divine Office, Scripture, the lives of the saints, doctrine, and the Church's prayer are placed together so that the mind learns what the Church remembers and the heart learns how a Catholic ought to judge and live.
Today's witness is gathered under The Good Shepherd lays down His life.. Its first point is this: The office of the Second Sunday after Easter contemplates Christ as the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep and gives His life for them. Its next point develops the lesson: Its witness teaches that the flock is gathered by sacrifice, voice, doctrine, and authority; the sheep are safe by hearing and following Him.
The practical instruction is: Do not wander under the name of freedom. The sheep live by the Shepherd's voice, especially when many strange voices call. Ask what truth is being guarded, what virtue is being praised, and what danger or forgetfulness is being corrected. In this way the Breviary becomes instruction for the present day rather than information that is quickly passed over.
- What truth does this Breviary witness teach or defend?
- What virtue does the Church place before me through it?
- What judgment or action should change because I have received this lesson?

FROM MATINS
The Good Shepherd and the hireling exposed.
Matins - Third Nocturn - Second Sunday after Easter
Pope St. Gregory the Great
"The Good Shepherd gave His life for the sheep."
- The Breviary contemplates Christ as the Good Shepherd, who knows His sheep, gives His life for them, and feeds them with His own Body and Blood.
- St. Gregory teaches that the shepherd must first spend outward goods for the sheep and, if need be, give even his life for them.
- The hireling is exposed by love of earthly gain, comfort, precedence, and safety more than the salvation of souls.
Learn the difference between shepherding and religious employment. The mark of the true shepherd is costly charity for souls, patterned after Christ who laid down His life.
THE PILGRIM'S SPIRITUAL CONFERENCE
True Devotion to Mary Forms the Soul in Christ
The Church places this truth before you today: True Marian devotion is not sentiment detached from obedience. It brings the soul more deeply under Christ's rule. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Our Lady does not compete with her Son. She forms servants who hear Him, believe Him, and remain beneath His Cross.
The grace to be practiced is Docility to the Good Shepherd, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice grateful orthodoxy by honoring Mary's true maternal office while confessing God as source and Jesus Christ as sole Redeemer.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist false Marian devotion that seeks comfort, novelty, or emotion without conversion. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing docility to the Good Shepherd when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Bear the effort of precise doctrine when simplification, controversy, exaggeration, or embarrassment tempts you to omit part of the truth. Invoke Our Lady's maternal help, cooperate fully with grace, and direct every received gift back to God through worship and obedience.
The Church's witness: this truth manifests the Church's mark of holy; the witness placed beside it is St. Louis-Marie de Montfort.
Your resolution before God: Practice every virtue the day requires, giving particular attention to the virtue most opposed by your habitual fault.
Carry this word: Virtue grows by repeated acts under grace.
THE PILGRIM'S MIRROR
"Who hath a stronger battle than he that laboureth to overcome himself?"
Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ, Book I, chapter 3, p. 12
The decisive field of combat is within. Heresy must be hated, and so must the pride, curiosity, compromise, and self-will by which falsehood finds lodging in the soul.

Many souls desire victory in the Church while making peace with the tyrant within. Begin the restoration where grace has placed authority in your hands: over your next thought, word, appetite, and decision. A hidden victory over self-will is no small service to the City of God.
Today's Practice: Refuse the demands of self-will promptly and without complaint.
DAILY EXAMEN
Examine gratitude for grace, fidelity to Mary's maternal office, and precision concerning Christ's unique and sovereign work.
- For what grace or mercy should I thank God today?
- What sin, fault, neglected duty, or resistance to grace must I confess?
- What definite amendment will I carry into tomorrow?
PRAYER
O Lord, make doctrine fruitful in habit. Let truth become patience, courage, purity, recollection, penance, charity, and perseverance.
DAILY RULE FOR THE PILGRIM
A brief rule to keep every day:
Begin with morning prayer
Adore the Blessed Trinity and offer the whole day to Jesus through Mary before other duties claim the mind.
Keep the Angelus
Pause morning, noon, and evening to remember the Incarnation.
Seek Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament
Attend Holy Mass when duty permits; otherwise make a Spiritual Communion and renew desire for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Return to Jesus and Mary
Use frequent holy aspirations during work, waiting, suffering, and temptation.
Pray the Rosary
Keep the mysteries of Christ before the mind with Our Lady and learn to imitate what they contain.
End with night prayer and examen
Give thanks, confess faults, forgive injuries, make a practical amendment, and entrust the night to Our Lady.

VERDAD DE LA FE
True Devotion to Mary Forms the Soul in Christ
True Marian devotion is not sentiment detached from obedience. It brings the soul more deeply under Christ's rule.
Nota de la Iglesia: Holy

Defensa católica: Our Lady does not compete with her Son. She forms servants who hear Him, believe Him, and remain beneath His Cross.
Error que resistir: Resist false Marian devotion that seeks comfort, novelty, or emotion without conversion.
VIRTUD QUE PRACTICAR
Docility to the Good Shepherd.
La virtud de hoy es Docility to the Good Shepherd..
