CITY OF GOD IN EXILE Feria in Time after Pentecost 2028-09-04 - Time after Pentecost - Feria - green PLAIN-LANGUAGE GUIDE FOR TODAY Feria: a weekday without a higher feast of its own; its prayers usually follow the current liturgical season. TODAY IN THE ROMAN YEAR At Pentecost the Holy Ghost strengthened the apostles to preach Christ publicly and carry the Gospel to the nations. His work is not private excitement separated from doctrine, worship, and the authority Christ established. The faithful should ask Him for zeal that makes them more obedient to revealed truth, more constant in charity, and more courageous in Catholic witness. Entrust the living and the dead to Our Lady with greater confidence, knowing that total consecration never hinders intercessory charity. Entrust family, benefactors, sinners, the dying, and the holy souls to Our Lady, and pray for their complete needs with confidence. "This practice does not hinder us from praying for others, whether dead or living, although the application of our good works depends on the will of our Blessed Lady. On the contrary, it is this very thing which will lead us to pray with more confidence." St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, no. 132 Consecration does not make the soul less charitable or incapable of assisting parents, friends, benefactors, sinners, the dying, and the holy souls. St. Louis de Montfort calls such fear unworthy of the goodness and power of Jesus and Mary. The surrendered soul continues to pray for every need with increased confidence. Offer the Rosary, Mass intentions, prayers, fasting, alms, indulgenced works, sacrifices, sufferings, and duties for the living and the dead, while leaving their application beneath Our Lady's wise charity and her Son's will. Detachment from private control should enlarge intercession, not narrow its range or lessen perseverance. THE PILGRIM'S SPIRITUAL CONFERENCE Revelation Was Entrusted to the Church The Church places this truth before you today: Sacred Scripture and Apostolic Tradition are received within the Church, whose divinely assisted teaching office guards the deposit of faith. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Private reading must remain subject to the faith once delivered, because the Scriptures belong to the Church that received, preserved, and interprets them. The grace to be practiced is Faithful obedience to the grace of the present day, drawn from the daily rule of fidelity. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice expansive intercession by praying, sacrificing, fasting, giving alms, and fulfilling duty for both the living and the dead. There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist private judgment when it sets itself above the Church's received doctrine. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing faithful obedience to the grace of the present day when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control. Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Release anxious control over spiritual fruits while persevering in specific petitions with faith in the goodness of Jesus and Mary. Offer the Rosary and the day's full prayer, sacrifice, charity, suffering, and duty for urgent intentions and souls in greatest need. The Church's witness: this truth manifests the Church's mark of apostolic; the witness placed beside it is St. Irenaeus. Your resolution before God: Obey God's commandments, fulfill your known duties, and receive just correction today as a direct answer to the temptation to say, 'I will not serve.' Carry this word: The root of revolt is refusal to hear God. THE PILGRIM'S MIRROR "Virtue appeareth best in time of adversity. Occasions make not a man frail, but they shew openly what he is." Do not waste the revelation God permits. When adversity uncovers impatience or fear, do not conclude that every previous effort was false. Thank God for showing you where the wall remains weak. Humble yourself, ask pardon if another was wounded, and return to the battle with a more honest knowledge of your need for grace. Today's Practice: At the next contradiction, name the virtue being tested and practice it once. DAILY EXAMEN Review whether consecration enlarged intercessory charity, remember neglected souls, and entrust every intention anew with confidence. - For what grace or mercy should I thank God today? - What sin, fault, neglected duty, or resistance to grace must I confess? - What definite amendment will I carry into tomorrow? PRAYER O Lord, keep me from Pharaoh's pride. When Moses delivered Thy command, Pharaoh asked, 'Who is the Lord, that I should hear his voice?' Do not let me answer Thy known will with the same refusal. DAILY RULE FOR THE PILGRIM A brief rule to keep every day: Begin with morning prayer Adore the Blessed Trinity and offer the whole day to Jesus through Mary before other duties claim the mind. Keep the Angelus Pause morning, noon, and evening to remember the Incarnation. Seek Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament Attend Holy Mass when duty permits; otherwise make a Spiritual Communion and renew desire for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Return to Jesus and Mary Use frequent holy aspirations during work, waiting, suffering, and temptation. Pray the Rosary Keep the mysteries of Christ before the mind with Our Lady and learn to imitate what they contain. End with night prayer and examen Give thanks, confess faults, forgive injuries, make a practical amendment, and entrust the night to Our Lady.
