CITY OF GOD IN EXILE
Feria of Septuagesima
2030-03-01 - Septuagesima - Feria - violet
PLAIN-LANGUAGE GUIDE FOR TODAY
Septuagesima: the first Sunday of the traditional pre-Lenten season; it begins the Church's gradual preparation for the fasting and penance of Lent.
Feria: a weekday without a higher feast of its own; its prayers usually follow the current liturgical season.
Divine Providence: God's wise and loving governance of creation, by which He directs all things without destroying human freedom.
TODAY IN THE ROMAN YEAR
The Church does not leave the faithful to pass through time as though days were neutral. This observance teaches the soul to receive the day under grace, to remember what God has done, and to let sacred time order study, prayer, and perseverance. Ask for a love of Our Lady that grows deeper rather than merely more talkative. Tell Our Lady simply that you desire to serve her Divine Son under her direction, not merely to feel devotion.

"Of Mary there is never enough."
St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, no. 10

This famous saying must not be understood as permission for exaggeration, invention, or devotion separated from doctrine. St. Louis de Montfort immediately speaks of praising, honoring, loving, and serving Mary as we ought. The little word serving protects the whole sentence from sentimentality.

There is never enough true devotion because there is never enough surrender to Jesus Christ. The soul can always receive His Mother more faithfully, imitate her more exactly, pray with greater recollection, and surrender another reserve of self-will. Ask not for more emotion today, but for more faithful service.

PRACTICE
Begin ordinary labor with deliberate recollection and return to God whenever distraction scatters the mind.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"He who prays is certainly saved. He who prays not is certainly damned."
St. Alphonsus Liguori, The Great Means of Salvation and of Perfection, Part I, chapter 1, conclusion

NOVENA IN PROGRESS
Novena to the Holy Face - Day 6 of 9
Preparing for Holy Face of Jesus on 2030-03-05.
Ask for reparation, reverence, hatred of blasphemy, and love for the suffering Face of Christ before Lent begins.

Offer the day's prayers, sacrifices, and duties in reparation for blasphemy, irreverence, false worship, and sins against the first three commandments.

ROMAN MARTYROLOGY - March 1
At Rome, two hundred and sixty holy martyrs, condemned for the name of Christ. Claudius ordered them to dig sand beyond the Salarian gate, and then to be shot dead with arrows by soldiers in the amphitheatre. — Also, the birthday of the holy martyrs Leo,Donatus, Abun dantius, Nicephorus, and nine others. — At Marseilles, the holy martyrs Hermes and Adrian. — At Heliopolis, in the persecution of Trajan, St. Eudoxia, martyr, -who, being baptized by bishop Theodotus and fortified for the combat, was put to the sword by the command of the governor Vincent, and thus received the crown of martyrdom. — The same day, St. Antonina, martyr. For deriding the gods of the Gentiles, in the persecution of Diocletian, she was, after various torments, shut up in a cask and drowned in a marsh near the city of Cea. — At Kaiserswerth, the bishop St. Swidbert, who, in the time of pope Sergius, preached the Gospel to the inhabitants of Friesland, Holland, and to other Germanic peoples. — At Angers, St. Albinus, bishop and confessor, a man of most eminent virtue and piety. — At Le Mans, St. Siviard, abbot. — At Perugia, the translation of St. Herculanus, bishop and martyr, who was beheaded by order of Totila, king of the Goths. Forty days after his decapitation his body, as pope St. Gregory relates, was found as sound and as firmly joined to the head as if it had never been touched by the sword.

THE PILGRIM'S SPIRITUAL CONFERENCE
Mary Is Mother of God and Mother of the Faithful
The Church places this truth before you today: The Blessed Virgin Mary is truly Mother of God, and her maternal office belongs to the order of Christ's Incarnation, Passion, and grace. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Marian doctrine protects the truth about Christ: one divine Person, truly God and truly man, born of the Virgin Mother.
The grace to be practiced is Faithful obedience to the grace of the present day, drawn from the daily rule of fidelity. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice constancy by keeping your Marian prayers with attention when novelty and feeling are absent.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist every thin devotion that praises Mary while separating her from doctrine, sacrifice, and the life of grace. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing faithful obedience to the grace of the present day when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Let dryness purify devotion from the demand to be consoled; remain faithful because God is worthy. Perform all your duties faithfully, correcting with special care the duty you habitually perform carelessly, as a servant of Jesus and Mary.
The Church's witness: this truth manifests the Church's mark of holy; the witness placed beside it is St. Cyril of Alexandria.
Your resolution before God: Begin ordinary labor with deliberate recollection and return to God whenever distraction scatters the mind.
Carry this word: The faithful soul receives the day before it spends it.
THE PILGRIM'S MIRROR
"By resisting of passions, then, is gotten the very true peace of heart, and not by following them."
Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ, Book I, chapter 6, p. 15
Peace is not surrender to every feeling. It is order beneath God, won by grace when appetite is made to obey truth and duty.

A passion grows louder when it expects immediate obedience. Do not be alarmed merely because anger, fear, discouragement, or desire speaks forcefully. Place a little silence between the movement and your consent, call upon Jesus and Mary, and choose what remains right.
Today's Practice: Delay impulsive responses and choose the calmer acts required by truth and duty.
DAILY EXAMEN
Measure devotion by obedience, purity, prayer, and charity rather than by the feelings the day provided.
- For what grace or mercy should I thank God today?
- What sin, fault, neglected duty, or resistance to grace must I confess?
- What definite amendment will I carry into tomorrow?
PRAYER
O Lord, place this day beneath Thy Providence. Keep my mind in truth, my heart in charity, and my work in obedience until evening.
DAILY RULE FOR THE PILGRIM
A brief rule to keep every day:
Begin with morning prayer
Adore the Blessed Trinity and offer the whole day to Jesus through Mary before other duties claim the mind.
Keep the Angelus
Pause morning, noon, and evening to remember the Incarnation.
Seek Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament
Attend Holy Mass when duty permits; otherwise make a Spiritual Communion and renew desire for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Return to Jesus and Mary
Use frequent holy aspirations during work, waiting, suffering, and temptation.
Pray the Rosary
Keep the mysteries of Christ before the mind with Our Lady and learn to imitate what they contain.
End with night prayer and examen
Give thanks, confess faults, forgive injuries, make a practical amendment, and entrust the night to Our Lady.

VERDAD DE LA FE
Mary Is Mother of God and Mother of the Faithful
The Blessed Virgin Mary is truly Mother of God, and her maternal office belongs to the order of Christ's Incarnation, Passion, and grace.
Nota de la Iglesia: Holy
Defensor: St. Cyril of Alexandria
Defensa católica: Marian doctrine protects the truth about Christ: one divine Person, truly God and truly man, born of the Virgin Mother.
Error que resistir: Resist every thin devotion that praises Mary while separating her from doctrine, sacrifice, and the life of grace.
O Lord, place this day beneath Thy Providence. Keep my mind in truth, my heart in charity, and my work in obedience until evening.
EXAMEN DIARIO
- ¿Por qué gracia o misericordia debo dar gracias a Dios hoy?
- ¿Qué pecado, falta, deber descuidado o resistencia a la gracia debo confesar?
- ¿Qué propósito concreto llevaré a mañana?
