CITY OF GOD IN EXILE Easter Sunday 2030-04-21 - Eastertide - Double of the First Class - white PLAIN-LANGUAGE GUIDE FOR TODAY Easter Sunday is the principal observance today. The calendar also preserves St. Anselm, Bishop, Confessor, and Doctor on this date. The secondary saint panel below comes from that secondary observance. That material adds another traditional lesson for the date; it does not replace the principal observance. Doctor of the Church: a saint formally recognized for teaching the Catholic Faith with exceptional depth and lasting value. Spiritual consolation: encouragement, peace, light, or strength permitted by God in prayer; it is a help toward fidelity, not the purpose of the spiritual life. Precious Blood: the human Blood of Jesus Christ, united to His divine Person and poured out on the Cross as the price of our redemption. TODAY IN THE ROMAN YEAR Christ is risen, has ascended in His glorified humanity, and reigns in Heaven. The Church and her members still suffer on earth, but their trials do not overturn His victory. Christian hope is therefore more than an encouraging feeling: it trusts Christ's promise of resurrection and eternal life and gives the faithful a reason to persevere in obedience today. Receive the ancient witnesses St. Louis de Montfort gathers concerning Mary's spiritual maternity and service within God's order of grace. Thank God for Our Lady's divine and spiritual maternity and receive every grace as Christ's gift ministered within His holy order. "‘Mary has two sons, the one a God-man, the other, mere man. Come to the empty tomb with more than Easter words. Let the risen Christ find in you the fragrance of faith, good works, and longing for the Fatherland above. THE PILGRIM'S SPIRITUAL CONFERENCE Christ Is King Over Public Life The Church places this truth before you today: Our Lord's kingship is not confined to private devotion. Men, families, laws, and nations are subject to His authority. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. The Church's Catholicity includes the public claim of Christ over all peoples, not merely the private consolation of believers. The grace to be practiced is Paschal joy and newness of life, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice grateful orthodoxy by honoring Mary's true maternal office while confessing God as source and Jesus Christ as sole Redeemer. There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist secular liberalism, which treats society as though it could be rightly ordered without Christ. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing paschal joy and newness of life when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control. Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Bear the effort of precise doctrine when simplification, controversy, exaggeration, or embarrassment tempts you to omit part of the truth. Invoke Our Lady's maternal help, cooperate fully with grace, and direct every received gift back to God through worship and obedience. The Church's witness: this truth manifests the Church's mark of catholic; the witness placed beside it is Pope Pius XI. Your resolution before God: Give thanks for the Precious Blood and guard every known occasion where grace could be wasted. Carry this word: The Precious Blood teaches the price of grace. THE PILGRIM'S MIRROR "Ask not who said this, but take heed what is said." Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ, Book I, chapter 5, p. 14 Truth does not become true through fashion, applause, or a celebrated name. Test what you hear by revelation and the perennial teaching of the Church. Yet Thomas à Kempis also rebukes the curiosity that collects authorities without receiving their doctrine. Listen for the truth God is giving through a trustworthy witness, and then permit that truth to correct you. A holy author's name should not become decoration around an unchanged life. Today's Practice: Reject claims based on novelty or popularity and ask what the Church has always taught. DAILY EXAMEN Examine gratitude for grace, fidelity to Mary's maternal office, and precision concerning Christ's unique and sovereign work. - For what grace or mercy should I thank God today? - What sin, fault, neglected duty, or resistance to grace must I confess? - What definite amendment will I carry into tomorrow? PRAYER O Lord Jesus Christ, by Thy Precious Blood cleanse my conscience, strengthen my will, and teach me never to treat grace as cheap. DAILY RULE FOR THE PILGRIM A brief rule to keep every day: Begin with morning prayer Adore the Blessed Trinity and offer the whole day to Jesus through Mary before other duties claim the mind. Keep the Angelus Pause morning, noon, and evening to remember the Incarnation. Seek Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament Attend Holy Mass when duty permits; otherwise make a Spiritual Communion and renew desire for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Return to Jesus and Mary Use frequent holy aspirations during work, waiting, suffering, and temptation. Pray the Rosary Keep the mysteries of Christ before the mind with Our Lady and learn to imitate what they contain. End with night prayer and examen Give thanks, confess faults, forgive injuries, make a practical amendment, and entrust the night to Our Lady.
