The Most Precious Blood of Jesus
The price of our redemption forbids a careless life. Remember the Precious Blood poured out upon Calvary and offered upon Catholic altars, and ask that no grace purchased at so great a cost be received in vain.

Good Morning, Pilgrim
Receive this day from God.
Ss. Cyril and Methodius placed learning, language, monastic discipline, and episcopal office at the service of conversion. They loved peoples by bringing them Christ and the Church's faith, not by leaving religious error untouched beneath the name of culture or peace.
Acknowledge that God is the source of every grace and has freely willed that His graces should come to us through the hands of Our Blessed Mother. Ask her to obtain the help needed to serve her Son today.

“It is not that we take her for the last end of our services, for that is Jesus Christ alone; but we take her for our proximate end, our mysterious means and our easy way to go to Him.”
Here St. Louis de Montfort guards true devotion from every distortion: Jesus Christ alone is the end. Mary never asks the soul to stop with her. Like her word at Cana, her maternal office is a continual direction toward obedience: do whatsoever He shall say to you.
Let this give you both confidence and order. You need not approach the duties of grace as an orphan relying upon personal strength. Go to Jesus beside the Mother He gave you, but go prepared to hear Him, to renounce sin, to receive Catholic truth whole, and to obey.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O God, through Ss. Cyril and Methodius, give me patient zeal, obedient learning, and love strong enough to desire conversion for every nation.

“What Rome first gave.”
- The Breviary honors Cyril and Methodius as brothers from Thessalonica whose learning, monastic discipline, and missionary obedience carried the Gospel to the Slav peoples.
- Cyril preached beyond the Crimea, translated holy Scripture into the language of the people, and helped form the alphabet by which the Slavonic language was expressed.
- Their mission was tested at Rome, where they gave account of their labor, professed fidelity to blessed Peter and the Roman Pontiffs, and received episcopal consecration and confirmation of their apostolic work.
Love peoples by giving them Christ, not by leaving them in error. Ss. Cyril and Methodius teach missionary patience, Roman fidelity, lawful pastoral adaptation, and doctrine brought into the tongue of souls.

The holy bishops Cyril and Methodius, who are mentioned on the 9th of March. — At Rome, the holy martyrs Claudius, notary, Mcostratus, assistant prefect, Castorius, Victorinus, and Symphorian, who were brought to the faith of Christ by St. Sebastian, and baptized by the blessed priest Polycarp. Whilst they were engaged in searching for the bodies of the holy martyrs, the judge Fabian had them arrested, and for ten days he tried by threats and caresses to shake their constancy, but being utterly unable to succeed, he ordered them to be thrice tortured, and then percipitated into the sea. — At Durazzo, in Macedonia, the holy martyrs Peregrinus> Lucian, Pompeius, Hesychius, Papius, Saturninus, and Germanus, natives of Italy. In the persecution of Trajan, they took refuge in the town of Durazzo, where seeing the saintly bishop Astius hanging on a cross for the faith of Christ, they publicly declared themselves to be Christians, when, by order of the governor, they were arrested and cast into the sea. — At Perugia, blessed Benedict XI., a native of Treviso of the Order of Preachers, who in the brief space of his pontificate, greatly promoted the peace of the Church, the restoration of discipline and the spread of religion. — At Alexandria, the birthday of St. Pantaenus, an apostolic man, filled with wisdom. Ss. Cyril and Methodius were brothers from Thessalonica who became apostles to the Slavic peoples. Learned, patient, and missionary, they gave themselves to preaching Christ where language, custom, and political pressure made the work difficult.
Their labor shows that a people is loved by being taught the faith clearly and brought into the Church's worship and discipline. Missionary adaptation must serve conversion to Christ, not surrender to local error or indifferentism.
Ask Ss. Cyril and Methodius for patient missionary courage. A people is not loved by leaving it without Christ.

Valid Sacraments Are a Grave Priority
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: The faithful must seek valid sacraments with prudence, sacrifice, and holy seriousness, without inventing sacraments or despising them. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Families often move for work, schools, or safety. The sacraments are a higher good, and should weigh heavily in practical decisions when God makes such a move possible.
The grace to be practiced is Missionary patience, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Imitate Mary's gratitude. Magnify the Lord for His gifts instead of turning them into a reason for self-esteem.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist home-alone despair when it becomes settled indifference to seeking valid sacraments. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing missionary patience when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. When consolation is absent, trust the order of divine Providence. Our Lady remains a Mother in darkness as surely as in joy. Give thanks before beginning, ask Mary's help while working, and return the completed act to Jesus without claiming it as your own.

How shall I imitate Christ today?
“A meek knowing of ourself is a surer way to God than is the searching for highness of cunning.”
Learning serves holiness only when it makes the soul humbler before God. Receive truth as a disciple of Christ, not as material for self-display.
Do not measure profit by how much you can repeat. Ask whether what you have learned has made prayer more reverent, judgment more Catholic, speech more restrained, and duty more exact. Knowledge that never kneels easily becomes another possession of pride.

Keep good insights hidden when charity does not require speech, and turn them into prayer and amendment.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Make your Magnificat in little: name God's mercies, diminish self, and entrust tomorrow to the Mother He has given you.
