Our Lady's divine maternity is unique: she is Mother of the Incarnate Head according to His human nature. Her maternal office toward His members belongs to the order of grace. She does not replace baptism, faith, or the sacraments; she serves the supernatural life by which Christ forms His members.
To live as her child is therefore to live as a member of Christ. Refuse every devotion that leaves conduct unchanged. Ask Mary to protect the life of grace, obtain repentance after sin, and form in you the likeness of the Head to whom the whole Mystical Body belongs.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord, bless every natural good, but do not let me confuse it with the life of grace. Draw my family, my work, and my affections beneath the Catholic Faith.

“Henceforth he had the books of the Holy Scriptures in his hands by day and by night.”
- The Breviary remembers St. Justin testing the schools of philosophy, finding error beneath their claims, and receiving the light of Christian truth through an unknown elder.
- Meditation on Holy Scripture kindled the fire of God in him, and he used his learning to defend the faith, explain Christian worship, and answer the slanders of pagans.
- Before the judge he protected the Christian assembly, confessed one Creator and Jesus Christ His Son, refused sacrifice to idols, and accepted scourging and death in hope of heaven.

feast of St. Justin, martyr, who is mentioned on the 13th of this month. — At Rome, on the Appian way, the birthday of the holy martyrs Tiburtius, Valerian, and Maximus, who suffered in the time of the emperor Alexander and the prefect Almachius. The first two being converted to Christ by the exhortations of blessed Cecilia, and baptized by pope St. Urban, were beaten with rods, and decapitated for the true faith. Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: Sacred Scripture and Apostolic Tradition are received within the Church, whose divinely assisted teaching office guards the deposit of faith. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Private reading must remain subject to the faith once delivered, because the Scriptures belong to the Church that received, preserved, and interprets them.
The grace to be practiced is Chaste guardianship and obedient strength, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice fidelity to grace by resisting every mortal sin and promptly correcting deliberate venial sin.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist private judgment when it sets itself above the Church's received doctrine. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing chaste guardianship and obedient strength when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Accept the discipline by which Christ conforms His members to the crucified Head. Fulfill all the duties of your state as a member of Christ whose conduct must honor the whole Mystical Body.

The Blessed Sacrament is not one devotion among many: it is Jesus Christ, the soul's true food. Let every Marian offering lead you more faithfully to her Eucharistic Son.
If you can assist at Mass and receive worthily, approach with recollection and hunger rather than habit. If you cannot, do not allow absence to become forgetfulness. Turn toward the tabernacle, confess your desire, and ask Our Lady to prepare in you a more faithful welcome for Jesus.

Make a reverent Spiritual Communion, or prepare carefully for Holy Communion if you will receive today.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Examine whether your conduct preserved the likeness of Christ or wounded His members, and seek contrition and amendment through Mary.
