A privileged call to reparation
First Friday: Reparation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
The first Friday of the month is a privileged invitation to answer the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with worthy Holy Communion, gratitude, perseverance, and reparation for coldness, sacrilege, and ingratitude toward Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. Our Lord entrusted this school of reparative love to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, and the Church has fostered it as a powerful means of drawing souls back to His Heart.
The Great Promise of the Sacred Heart
In the canonization record of St. Margaret Mary, Pope Benedict XV recounts Our Lord's promise that those who receive Holy Communion on the first Friday for nine consecutive months will be granted the benefit of final repentance: they will not die in His displeasure or without the sacraments, and His Heart will be their secure refuge in the last hour. This promise should awaken confidence, perseverance, and a more faithful sacramental life.

The intention
For worthy Holy Communions, reparation for offenses against the Blessed Sacrament, the conversion of sinners, and a heart made meek, humble, pure, and obedient after the Heart of Jesus.
Answer the invitation today
When keeping the Nine First Fridays, prepare for worthy Holy Communion in the state of grace and offer it in reparation to the Sacred Heart. Let the nine months establish a continuing First Friday habit rather than mark an endpoint: after completing them, continue this reparative devotion whenever possible, answering the injuries of sin with lifelong gratitude, penance, and love. Whether or not Communion is possible today, make a reverent visit or spiritual Communion and offer hidden sacrifices in reparation.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Receive the prayer, sacrifice, and duty of this day in reparation for sin. Draw cold and wandering souls back to Thy truth, Thy altar, and Thy love, and make my heart obedient to Thine.

At the Visitation, Our Lady receives Christ inwardly and carries Him in haste to the house of St. Elizabeth. Her haste is peaceful obedience, not agitation: true Marian devotion magnifies God and becomes humble service that leaves another household nearer to Christ.

The Father is the source of the mission of the Son, and the Son is the one Redeemer. Yet the Incarnation was accomplished in the virginal womb and with Mary's free consent. God entered His creation through the fiat of the humble Virgin He had prepared.
Do not separate Marian devotion from the mystery it serves. Every Hail Mary should deepen faith in the Incarnate Word; every Rosary should make His life, Passion, and glory more governing; every recourse to His Mother should end in more complete obedience to Him.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord Jesus Christ, through Thy holy Mother, make my charity prompt, humble, recollected, and wholly ordered to Thy glory.

Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: Our Lord's kingship is not confined to private devotion. Men, families, laws, and nations are subject to His authority. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. The Church's Catholicity includes the public claim of Christ over all peoples, not merely the private consolation of believers.
The grace to be practiced is Prompt charity under Mary's rule, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice faith in the Incarnation by treating the words, commandments, and mysteries of Jesus Christ as the words of God made man.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist secular liberalism, which treats society as though it could be rightly ordered without Christ. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing prompt charity under Mary's rule when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Accept the humility of God's approach: He came in hiddenness and asks fidelity that may also remain hidden. Carry the mysteries of the Rosary through all your duties, returning often to the words and actions of the Incarnate Son.

The Gospel is not given only to inform the mind. Grace asks that the life of Christ become visible throughout your conduct today, with particular attention to the virtue shown in the appointed mystery.
It is possible to admire Our Lord while quietly refusing His manner of life. Ask where He is inviting you to become more patient, hidden, truthful, obedient, or forgiving. Conformity begins when admiration accepts a cost.

Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Ask whether devotion to Our Lady led you more deeply into adoration, obedience, and love of her Divine Son.
