Receive this day from God.
The Time after Pentecost is the long school of the Holy Ghost. The fire given at Pentecost must become doctrine believed, worship guarded, commandments kept, homes ordered, tongues governed, and charity practiced without novelty or disorder.
Ask for Our Lady's recollection before the noise of the day begins. Let her lead the mind away from distraction and toward the will of her Son.
Formation in True Devotion - Day 275: Review and Deepening: Consecrated Life through Mary to Jesus
“This devotion consists, then, in giving ourselves entirely to Our Lady, in order to belong entirely to Jesus through her.”
True devotion is not measured by the warmth of a feeling or the number of Marian words upon the lips. St. Louis de Montfort speaks of a gift of self. What is placed in Mary's hands must no longer be withheld whenever obedience becomes costly, prayer becomes dry, or duty asks to be preferred to inclination.
Do not be frightened by the greatness of this surrender. Our Lady does not impoverish the soul that gives itself to her; she teaches it to cease wasting itself upon vanity and to belong more simply to Jesus. Begin with the next duty, and let your consecration become visible there.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord, keep the faithful in the Church's holy memory, and let this day's feast, feria, or witness draw my soul nearer to Thee.

Fourth Lesson - The First Flower of South America
The first flower of holiness which came to full blossom in South America, was the maiden Rose. She was born at Lima, of a Christian father and mother, [upon the 20th of April, in the year 1586,] and was remarkable from her childhood for marks of saintliness. The occasion of her name was a strange likeness to a rose, which her face assumed when she was a babe. To this name she afterwards added that of the Virgin Mother of God, desiring to be called "St Mary's Rose." At the age of fifteen years she uttered a vow of perpetual virginity. As she grew older, lest her parents should force her to marry, she polled her head of all her hair, which was very beautiful. She fasted to a degree almost superhuman, passing whole Lents without taking bread, and eating day by day only five pips of a lime.
Fifth Lesson - Hidden Penance and Spiritual Combat
She took the habit of the Third Order of St Dominick, and then doubled her former severities. She wore a long and very rough hair-cloth, into which she inserted small pins. She wore day and night under her veil a crown, the inner side of which was armed with pricks. In imitation of the hard steps of St Katharine of Sienna, she girded her loins with a threefold iron chain. She made to herself a bed of knotty sticks, and filled the gaps with broken bits of potsherd. She built herself a very small hut in the farthest corner of the garden, where she gave herself up to thoughts of heavenly things, and to punishing her body with often scourging, starvation, and sleeplessness. But she waxed strong in spirit, and though she often had to fight with evil ghosts, she conquered them, fearlessly prostrated them, and triumphed over them.
Sixth Lesson - Fidelity through Desolation
She suffered greatly from painful illnesses, from the maltreatment of the servants, and from slanderous accusations, but still complained that she did not suffer as much as she deserved. For fifteen years she pined in misery from desolation and dryness of spirit, bravely enduring torments worse than any form of death. After this period she began to overflow with consolation, to be enlightened by visions, and to melt with love like a Seraph's. She attained, by the frequency of visions, to a strange personal familiarity with her Guardian Angel, with St Katharine of Sienna, and with the Virgin Mother of God, and she earned from Christ the words, "Rose of My Heart, be thou My bride." She was famous for many miracles, both before and after she departed hence, and was happily transplanted into the Bridegroom's garden, [upon the 24th of August 1617, being aged 31 years.] Pope Clement X. with solemn pomp inscribed her name in the list of holy maidens.

The feast of St. Kose of St. Mary, virgin, whose birthday is the 26th of this month. — At Rome, on the Ostian road, the martyrdom of the blessed priest Felix, under the emperors Diocletian and Maximian. After being racked he was sentenced to death, and as they led him to execution, he met a man who spontaneously declared himself a Christian, and was forthwith beheaded with him. The Christians not knowing his name, called him Adauctus, because he was added to St. Felix and shared his crown. — Also, at Rome, St. Gaudentia, virgin and martyr, with three others. — In the same city, St. Pammachius, a priest distinguished for learning and holiness. — At Colonia Suffetulana, in Africa, sixty blessed martyrs, who were murdered by the furious Gentiles. — At Adrumetum, also in Africa, the Saints Boniface and Thecla, who were the parents of twelve blessed sons, martyrs. — At Thessalonica, St. Fantinus, confessor, who suffered much from the Saracens, and was driven from his monastery, in which he had lived in great abstinence. St. Rose of Lima, the first canonized flower of sanctity from the Americas, is remembered for prayer, penance, purity, and charity.
Her hidden life of mortification and love was not wasted. She teaches that a soul can serve the Church by prayer, bodily discipline, works of mercy, and love offered to God for others.
St. Rose teaches the power of hidden offering. Let small sacrifices become prayer for souls rather than private misery.

Doctrine Develops Without Becoming Another Doctrine
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: True growth in Catholic doctrine preserves the same meaning and the same judgment; it unfolds what was received, without changing the faith into a novelty. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Unity of faith is protected when later expression remains identical in substance with what the Church has always taught.
The grace to be practiced is Hidden penance for souls, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Imitate Mary's obedience. Catholic obedience hears God first, receives the truth whole, and refuses every command that would require sin or betrayal of the Faith.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist the modernist notion that dogma may change its meaning according to the religious needs of an age. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing hidden penance for souls when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. When the duty is difficult, make Mary's fiat your own: accept God's will without bargaining, while using every lawful means duty requires. Begin this act with the aspiration, 'Jesus, living in Mary, live and reign in me.' Then perform it faithfully.

How shall I imitate Christ today?
“By resisting of passions, then, is gotten the very true peace of heart, and not by following them.”
Peace is not surrender to every feeling. It is order beneath God, won by grace when appetite is made to obey truth and duty.
A passion grows louder when it expects immediate obedience. Do not be alarmed merely because anger, fear, discouragement, or desire speaks forcefully. Place a little silence between the movement and your consent, call upon Jesus and Mary, and choose what remains right.
Today's Practice
Delay impulsive responses and choose the calmer acts required by truth and duty.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Examine whether you obeyed Christ promptly or delayed through self-will. Entrust repentance and amendment to Our Lady.
