The Blessed Virgin Mary
Saturday is kept in filial remembrance of Our Lady, who remained faithful when Our Lord lay hidden in the tomb. Walk with Mary toward Jesus by imitating her faith, purity, recollection, and perseverance.

For growth in true devotion to Mary, the conversion of sinners, the protection of purity, and perseverance in the Catholic Faith.
A faithful act
Set the goal of praying the complete traditional Rosary today: all fifteen decades of the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. Offer it for a definite intention, especially for the conversion and salvation of sinners. If the duties of your state require it, pray its three parts at different hours, but persevere toward completing the whole Rosary. Souls are in need: at Fatima, Our Lady warned that many souls go to hell because there is no one to make sacrifices and pray for them.
Prayer — The Magnificat
My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him. He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble. Indulgences
The faithful who devoutly recite the Magnificat may gain an indulgence of three years; an indulgence of five years when it is recited on the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary or on any Saturday of the year; and a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, when it is devoutly recited daily for an entire month.

The green season is not empty time. It is growth under grace. The pilgrim must ask whether the seed of doctrine is becoming virtue, whether prayer is becoming habit, whether zeal is becoming charity, and whether Catholic truth is governing ordinary choices.
Cede the value and fruit of every good work to Jesus through Mary, asking freedom from spiritual ownership and hidden self-interest.

“There is no other practice equal to this for enabling us to get rid with facility of a certain proprietorship, which imperceptibly insinuates itself into our best actions. Our good Jesus gives us this great grace in recompense for the heroic and disinterested action of making a cession to Him, by the hands of His holy Mother, of all the value of our good works.”
Spiritual proprietorship is subtler than attachment to material goods. The soul may treat prayers, penances, merits, consolations, achievements, apostolic fruit, reputation for virtue, and even suffering as private capital. Total consecration cedes their value to Jesus through Mary and strikes at this hidden self-love.
Cession does not abolish responsible stewardship, prudence, justice, duties, or the examination of fruit. It removes possessive dominion and self-seeking. Work diligently, pray fervently, repair defects, and seek holiness; then release control over recognition, visible results, beneficiaries, consolation, and recompense.
Ora — Begin with Prayer
Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord, bless every natural good, but do not let me confuse it with the life of grace. Draw my family, my work, and my affections beneath the Catholic Faith.

Third Lesson - They Would Not Abandon the Christian Religion
Protus and Hyacinth were brothers and eunuchs in the service of blessed Eugenia the Virgin. They were baptized together with her by Bishop Helenus and, devoting themselves to the study of the divine writings, lived for some time among the ascetics in Egypt with wonderful humility and holiness of life. Afterwards they accompanied the holy virgin Eugenia to Rome. During the reign of Gallienus they were arrested in the City for professing the Christian Faith. Since they could by no means be induced to abandon the Christian religion and worship the gods, they were beaten with cruel scourges and beheaded on the third day before the Ides of September.

At Rome, in the Cemetery of Basilla, on the old Salarian road, the birthday of the holy martyrs Protus and Hyacinth, brothers and eunuchs in the service of blessed Eugenia, who were arrested, in the time of the emperor Gallienus, on the charge of being Christians, and urged to offer sacrifice to the gods. But as they refused, both were most severely scourged, and finally beheaded. — At Laodicea, in Syria, the martyrdom of the Saints Diodorus, Diomedes, and Didimus. — At Leon, in Spain, St. Vincent, abbot and martyr. — In Egypt, the holy bishop J'aplmutius, one of those confessors, who, under the emperor Galerius Maxiininus, having their right eye plucked out and the joint of the left knee cut, were condemned to work in the metal mines. The Martyrology places Saints Protus and Hyacinth in the Cemetery of Basilla on the old Salarian road, brothers in the service of blessed Eugenia and martyrs under Gallienus.
When urged to offer sacrifice to the gods, they refused, were scourged, and were finally beheaded. Their witness teaches that a servant of Christ must be free even when standing before earthly masters.

The Church places this truth before you today: Catholic faith is not a private sentiment. It must be confessed, defended, and lived before men when duty requires it. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. The Church is sent to all nations. Her public confession cannot be reduced to hidden feeling or private preference.
The grace to be practiced is Steadfast refusal of idolatry, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice disinterested stewardship by laboring faithfully while surrendering recognition, control, consolation, reward, and visible success.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist cowardly peace when silence would imply consent to error. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing steadfast refusal of idolatry when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Accept obscurity, misunderstood effort, unseen fruit, delayed results, and benefits assigned beyond personal knowledge or preference. Perform every prayer, penance, duty, and charitable work completely, then release its value and outcome through Mary's hands.

Fervor is not religious excitement. It is the awakened will that remembers its end and returns to duty when nature grows sluggish. You were created to know, love, and serve God and thereby attain eternal life; every lesser purpose must remain beneath this one.
Recall why you began to seek a more faithful Catholic life. Then ask what has cooled: prayer postponed, sacrifice avoided, truth softened, or daily duty performed without love. Do not attempt to recover everything through emotion. Renew the next act, and let diligence carry the soul where feeling does not.

Renew aloud the purpose of your life before God, then complete the duty you have most resisted.

Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Examine attachment to spiritual goods and reputation, make contrition for self-appropriation, and renew the complete cession.
