Receive this day from God.
Ss. Peter and Paul show the visible apostolic order Christ gave His Church: the faith is confessed, authority is received, the Gospel is carried to the nations, and witness is sealed by suffering. Love for the Church therefore rejects both private religion and office emptied of fidelity to revealed truth.
Adore God's sovereign freedom and ask Our Lady to obtain a docile acceptance of everything He has revealed and appointed.

“Nevertheless I say that, things being supposed as they are now, God having willed to commence and to complete His greatest works by the most holy Virgin, since He created her, we may well think He will not change His conduct in the eternal ages; for He is God, and He changes not either in His sentiments or in His conduct.”
St. Louis de Montfort has just confessed God's absolute independence. He now turns from what God could have done to what God freely willed to do. Devotion rests upon that divine choice, not upon an imagined necessity in God or an independent power in Mary.
Receive God's order instead of designing a more convenient religion for yourself. The same humility that accepts the Incarnation through Mary must also accept Christ's doctrine, commandments, Church, sacraments, Cross, and means of grace without revision by private preference.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord Jesus Christ, through Ss. Peter and Paul, keep me firm in the apostolic Faith and generous in labor for souls. Give me hatred of heresy without hatred of persons and perseverance beneath the order Thou established.

At Rome, the birthday of the holy apostles Peter and Paul, who suffered martyrdom on the same day, under the emperor Nero. Within the city the former was crucified with his dead downwards, and buried in the Vatican, near the Triumphal way, where he is venerated by the whole world. The latter was put to the sword and buried on the Ostian way, where he receives similar honors. — At Argenton, St. Marcellus, martyr, who was beheaded for the faith of Christ together with the soldier Anastasius. — At Genoa, the birthday of St. Syrius, bishop. — At Narni, St. Cassius, bishop of that city, of whom St. Gergory relates, that he permitted scarcely any day of his life to pass without offering the victim of propitiation to Almighty God; and he was well worthy to do it, for he distributed in alms all he possessed, and his devotion was such that abundant tears flowed from his eyes during the holy sacrifice. St. Paul preached Christ to the nations, suffered chains and persecution for the Gospel, and was beheaded for the faith at Rome. Together they show that apostolic authority and apostolic mission are inseparable from suffering for truth.

True Devotion to Mary Forms the Soul in Christ
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: True Marian devotion is not sentiment detached from obedience. It brings the soul more deeply under Christ's rule. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Our Lady does not compete with her Son. She forms servants who hear Him, believe Him, and remain beneath His Cross.
The grace to be practiced is Apostolic firmness and missionary charity, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice docility by receiving God's order whole rather than accepting only the parts agreeable to temperament.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist false Marian devotion that seeks comfort, novelty, or emotion without conversion. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing apostolic firmness and missionary charity when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. When obedience contradicts preference, surrender the desire to make God's way answer to your own design. Order all your prayers, duties, relationships, and sacrifices according to God's commandments and the obligations of your state in life.

“I had liefer be poor with Thee, than rich without Thee.”
Older English: “liefer” means “rather.”
No created success compensates for separation from Christ. Prefer His friendship, His truth, and His Cross to every advantage gained by compromise.
Temptation often presents the price first and hides the loss. It tells you what obedience may cost in comfort, reputation, companionship, or opportunity, while concealing the poverty of possessing these things without peace with God. Look beyond the immediate bargain and choose with eternity in view.

Refuse every compromise made for comfort, gain, or human respect.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Examine where private preference tried to replace God's revealed order, and renew your submission through Mary to Jesus Christ.
