The Holy Angels
God has appointed His angels as ministers of His providence. Honor them by greater purity, recollection, and prompt obedience to grace, never forgetting that their whole service leads the soul to God.

A faithful act
Before a difficult duty or conversation, ask your Guardian Angel to help you act without sin and for God's glory.

Receive this day from God.
The Vigil of St. Andrew prepares the soul to hear tomorrow's apostolic call before Advent begins. St. Andrew first sought the Messias, brought his brother to Jesus, and later embraced the cross appointed for him. Prepare by recollection: Christ calls you not merely to admire Him, but to follow and help another soul find Him.
Acknowledge your complete dependence upon grace and ask through Mary for the help needed in today's actual duties.
Formation in True Devotion - Day 367: Review and Deepening: Hiddenness and Humility
“…and finally, that the depth of her humility, and of all her virtues and graces, is an abyss which never can be sounded.”
The saints do not grow weary of contemplating Our Lady because every virtue in her leads them more deeply into the work of God. Yet St. Louis de Montfort places humility at the depth. Mary is not full of grace because she made herself great; she is wholly receptive to God, empty of resistance, and therefore capable of being filled beyond every other creature.
Do not attempt to imitate an abyss by multiplying resolutions. Begin at the edge: consent to be a creature, dependent upon grace, unable to sanctify yourself, and yet truly called by God. Ask Mary to make this dependence peaceful rather than anxious, and let it move you to prayer before effort and thanksgiving after it.

Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord Jesus Christ, through St. Andrew, detach me from delay, prepare me to follow Thy call, and use my fidelity for the salvation of another soul.

At Rome, St. Rufus, who, with all his family, was made a martyr by Diocletian. — At Corinth, the birthday of St. Sosthenes, disciple of the blessed apostle Paul, who is mentioned by that apostle in his epistle to the Corinthians. He was chief of the synagogue when converted to Christ, and, as a glorious beginning, consecrated the first fruits of his faith by being scourged in the presence of the proconsul Gallio. — In Africa, under the Arian king Genseric, in the persecution of the Vandals, the holy martyrs Papinian and Mansuetus, bishops, who, for the Catholic faith, were burned in every part of their bodies with hot plates of iron, and thus ended their glorious combat. At this time also, other holy bishops. Valerian, Urban, Crescens, Eustachius, Cresconius, Crescentian, Felix, Hortulanus, and Florentian, terminated the course of their lives in exile. — At Constantinople, in the time of Constantine Copronymus, the holy martyrs Stephen the Younger, Basil, Peter, Andrew and their companions, numbering three hundred and thirty-nine monks, who were subjected to various torments for the worship of holy images, and confirmed the Catholic truth with the shedding of their blood. — At Rome, blessed pope Gregory III., who departed for heaven with a reputation for sanctity and miracles. — At Naples, the departure from this world of St. James of La Marca, confessor, of the Order of Minorites, celebrated for the austerity of his life, his apostolic manner of preaching, and his many legations undertaken for the success of the affairs of Christianity. The Church Suffers Without Ceasing to Be the Church
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: The Church can be eclipsed, persecuted, betrayed, and reduced in visible splendor, yet Christ does not fail in His promises. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Exile must not make the faithful invent another Church, nor despair of the one Christ founded.
The grace to be practiced is Faithful obedience to the grace of the present day, drawn from the daily rule of fidelity. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Humility tells the truth about weakness without discouragement because it also tells the truth about God's help.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist both triumphalist denial of crisis and despairing denial of Christ's indefectible Church. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing faithful obedience to the grace of the present day when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Let a limitation remind you to pray rather than tempt you either to despair or pretense. Before the most difficult duty, pause long enough to ask for grace; after it, give thanks instead of taking possession of success.

How shall I imitate Christ today?
“Thou hast here no place of long abiding, for wheresoever thou be, thou art but a stranger and a pilgrim.”
The citizen of Heaven uses earthly goods faithfully without building his final home in them. Receive the day's joys and sorrows as provisions for the road.
Exile becomes bitter when the soul demands permanence from what must pass. Let today's change, disappointment, or small loss remind you gently of your destination. Fulfill earthly duties well precisely because they are the road appointed by God, but keep the heart free for the City that does not pass away.

When something passes away today, say: My home is with God.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Return every success and failure to God through Mary, keeping neither as material for pride or discouragement.
