A privileged call to reparation
First Friday: Reparation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
The first Friday of the month is a privileged invitation to answer the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with worthy Holy Communion, gratitude, perseverance, and reparation for coldness, sacrilege, and ingratitude toward Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. Our Lord entrusted this school of reparative love to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, and the Church has fostered it as a powerful means of drawing souls back to His Heart.
The Great Promise of the Sacred Heart
In the canonization record of St. Margaret Mary, Pope Benedict XV recounts Our Lord's promise that those who receive Holy Communion on the first Friday for nine consecutive months will be granted the benefit of final repentance: they will not die in His displeasure or without the sacraments, and His Heart will be their secure refuge in the last hour. This promise should awaken confidence, perseverance, and a more faithful sacramental life.

For worthy Holy Communions, reparation for offenses against the Blessed Sacrament, the conversion of sinners, and a heart made meek, humble, pure, and obedient after the Heart of Jesus.
Answer the invitation today
When keeping the Nine First Fridays, prepare for worthy Holy Communion in the state of grace and offer it in reparation to the Sacred Heart. Let the nine months establish a continuing First Friday habit rather than mark an endpoint: after completing them, continue this reparative devotion whenever possible, answering the injuries of sin with lifelong gratitude, penance, and love. Whether or not Communion is possible today, make a reverent visit or spiritual Communion and offer hidden sacrifices in reparation.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Receive the prayer, sacrifice, and duty of this day in reparation for sin. Draw cold and wandering souls back to Thy truth, Thy altar, and Thy love, and make my heart obedient to Thine.

Keep the Church's Friday abstinence and add hidden self-denial in memory of the Passion.

Receive this day from God.
Humiliation, opposition, and penance do not mean that God has ceased to govern. Our Lord redeemed the world through His obedient suffering on the Cross. When Catholics accept unavoidable trials without sin, perform penance, and continue obeying the truth, those sufferings can humble pride and deepen fidelity rather than lead to despair.
Ask for grace to accept the place Providence gives today without inward theatre or complaint.

“He heard her prayers when she begged to be hidden, to be humbled and to be treated as in all respects poor and of no account.”
This prayer of Our Lady is severe only to the part of us that desires religious importance. She does not ask to be separated from God, but to be freed from the false greatness that would draw the heart toward itself. Her littleness makes room for the mighty works of the Lord because she does not seize them as material for self-exaltation.
Do not manufacture humiliation or permit injustice when duty requires a response. But when Providence allows you to be overlooked, misunderstood, or assigned an ordinary place, watch the inward protest. There you may offer Mary something real: the claim of self-love to be accounted greater than God has presently appointed.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O crucified Lord, keep me from being ashamed of Thy Cross. Give me grace to accept unavoidable suffering without sin, complaint, or loss of hope.

Alexander was bound, imprisoned, racked, lacerated with hooks, burned, pierced in all his limbs with pointed instruments, and finally put to death, under the emperor Adrian and the judge Aurelian. Eventins and Theodulus, after a long imprisonment were exposed to the flames, and then beheaded. — At Xarni, St. Juvenal, bishop and confessor. — At Constantinople, the holy martyrs Alexander, soldier, and Antonina, virgin. In the persecution of Maximian, under the governor Festus, Antonina, having been condemned to remain in a honse of debanch? was delivered by Alexander, who secretly exchanging garments with her, took her place. Dogma Binds the Mind Because God Has Spoken
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: A Catholic dogma is not something the Church says for a while and later replaces. It is a truth revealed by God and taught by the Church. Because God cannot lie, the Church cannot later teach the opposite. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. The binding force of dogma protects souls from private invention and keeps charity rooted in truth rather than mood.
The grace to be practiced is Veneration of the Cross in life, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Humility receives truth about oneself from God and does not require either praise or false self-contempt.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist the modernist habit of treating dogma as a symbol whose meaning may be revised by later experience. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing veneration of the Cross in life when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. When overlooked, remain charitable and exact in duty instead of withdrawing your good will. Let useful acts remain unannounced whenever charity does not require them to be known.

How shall I imitate Christ today?
“Then shall a good clean conscience make us more gladsome and merry than the cunning of all philosophy.”
At judgment, appearances will fall away and the soul will stand in truth before God. Learning, reputation, and skill have their proper uses, but none can replace a conscience purified by repentance and kept faithful through obedience.
Do not seek peace by avoiding examination. Ask the Holy Ghost to show you every matter that remains unsettled: sins requiring confession, injuries requiring forgiveness, restitution that can be made, or duties repeatedly postponed. A clean conscience is not sinlessness claimed by pride; it is the peace of a soul that refuses concealment and returns to grace.

Settle every matter of conscience that can rightly be settled today, and prepare definitely to bring the rest to Confession.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Examine the moments when being of little account disturbed your peace more than offending God would have done.
