Formation in True Devotion - Day 201: Review and Deepening: The Latter-Day Combat beneath Our Lady
“I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed; she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.”
St. Louis de Montfort reads Genesis 3:15 as the divine declaration governing the conflict between Our Lady and the serpent, her children and his instruments. This is not material for date-setting or idle speculation about Antichrist. It is a command to choose sides now through faith, grace, obedience, purity, prayer, and resistance to sin.
The serpent lies in wait at the heel through deception, temptation, persecution, and compromise. Do not imagine that Marian profession makes vigilance unnecessary. Remain close to Jesus and Mary, reject occasions of sin, know Catholic doctrine, pray the Rosary, use sacramentals rightly, receive the sacraments worthily, and rise promptly after every fall.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord, through St. Silverius, give Thy faithful love for true authority and hatred of the heresy that corrupts souls. Keep us patient under injustice and free from bitterness or lawlessness.

“He hath left unto His faithful ones the Same His very Body for Meat, and the Same His very Blood for Drink.”
- The Breviary places Corpus Christi before the faithful as solemn adoration of the Sacrament in which Christ Himself is truly given.
- St. Thomas teaches that the Eucharist is memorial of the Passion, sacrifice of reconciliation, food of the soul, and pledge of the joy no man shall take away.
- The senses remain before bread and wine, but faith confesses Christ Himself, perfect God and perfect man, whole under the sacramental appearances.

For refusing to reinstate the heretical bishop Anthimus, deposed by his predecessor Agapitus, he was banished to the isle of Pontia, by Belisarius, at the instigation of the wicked empress Theodora, and, consumed by many tribulations for the Catholic faith, he expired. — At Rome, the demise of St. Novatus, son of the blessed senator Pudens, and brother of the saintly priest Timothy, and of the holy virgins of Christ Pudentiana and Praxedes, who were instructed in the faith by the Apostles. Let Corpus Christi make the exile ache rightly. Distance from valid sacraments should deepen adoration, longing, and reparation, never indifference.

St. Silverius is honored as pope and martyr, remembered for suffering deposition, exile, and hardship amid political and ecclesiastical violence.
His feast teaches that the Roman office can be outwardly humiliated while remaining a charge before Christ. Suffering does not by itself disprove a shepherd; it often reveals what worldly power hates.
Ask St. Silverius for patience under confusing injustice. Christ's truth is not decided by the hands that seize control.

Dogma Binds the Mind Because God Has Spoken
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: A Catholic dogma is not something the Church says for a while and later replaces. It is a truth revealed by God and taught by the Church. Because God cannot lie, the Church cannot later teach the opposite. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. The binding force of dogma protects souls from private invention and keeps charity rooted in truth rather than mood.
The grace to be practiced is Eucharistic faith and adoration, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice vigilance in doctrine, imagination, senses, relationships, media, habits, and every occasion where the serpent may lie in wait.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist the modernist habit of treating dogma as a symbol whose meaning may be revised by later experience. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing eucharistic faith and adoration when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Accept the hardship of sustained combat without expecting a life free from temptation, persecution, weariness, or sacrifice. Oppose the serpent throughout the day by prayer, truth, purity, obedience, mortification, duty, reparation, and charity toward endangered souls.

How shall I imitate Christ today?
“It behoveth thee to break thine own will in many things, if thou wilt have peace and concord with others.”
Concord bought by surrendering truth is false, but many quarrels arise from preference rather than principle. Yield what belongs to self-will while holding fast what belongs to God.
Learn to distinguish the two before the moment of conflict. Doctrine, purity, justice, and necessary duty may require firmness. Your preferred method, timing, recognition, or last word usually does not. The soul becomes strong when it stops spending zeal upon the defense of self.
Today's Practice
Yield harmless preferences cheerfully whenever truth and duty do not require firmness.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Examine the snares encountered, thank God for every victory, repent of every consent, and strengthen tomorrow's guards.
