4. Prudence Must Not Become Private Judgment
Watchtower of Errors: doctrines named clearly from the safety of truth so they can be resisted.
is necessary in crisis. A Catholic may need to investigate clergy, , public doctrine, chapel affiliation, moral safety, and the real effects a decision will have on the household. Carelessness can harm souls.
But can be counterfeited. It becomes when the soul no longer uses reason to the Faith, but uses crisis to make the private self the final rule of worship, doctrine, , and ecclesial life.
What Prudence Does
applies true principles to concrete circumstances. It asks what is actually safe, , lawful, possible, and ordered to salvation. It does not ignore facts. It does not pretend danger is absent. It does not rush families into doubtful religion because loneliness is painful.
Real also keeps the goal clear. It seeks Catholic life, not private control. It refuses false worship, but still loves true worship. It avoids doubtful , but still longs for certain . It protects the home, but does not make the home supreme.
serves the Faith.
What Private Judgment Does
makes the individual or household the final tribunal. It may use traditional language, but it slowly becomes answerable only to itself. Every priest is judged from above by the family system. Every chapel is approached as a threat to domestic sovereignty. Every practical demand is dismissed as unsafe before it can inconvenience the settled pattern.
The private judge may still be correct about many dangers. That is what makes the difficult. Correct warnings can coexist with a false principle.
The question is not whether dangers exist. The question is whether the soul remains governed by Catholic order while discerning them.
The Signs Of A Bad Drift
The drift from to often shows itself in habits:
- no concrete plan to seek ;
- constant research without obedient action;
- suspicion that becomes identity;
- treating every outside correction as an attack;
- children formed more by avoidance than by Catholic desire;
- comfort with permanent absence.
These signs do not prove guilt in every case. They do warn the household to examine whether caution has become a fortress.
The Catholic Balance
The Catholic balance is narrow but real. Do not compromise with false worship. Do not submit to doubtful . Do not hand children to because a chapel looks traditional. But also do not canonize isolation, enthrone the family, or make private discernment the whole form of Catholic life.
Seek counsel where it can be found safely. Study traditional theology. Learn 's marks. Keep praying for priests. Be willing to change course when truth requires it.
The faithful household should be guarded, not sealed shut.
