The Blessed Virgin Mary
The month of Mary should not pass in affection alone. Place yourself under her mantle and learn her humility, purity, recollection, and obedience, so that she may form Christ more perfectly in you.
Intention
For growth in true devotion to Our Lady, the protection of innocence, and the return of wandering souls to her Divine Son.
A faithful act
Offer the Rosary, or a carefully prayed decade when the full Rosary is not possible, for souls in danger of losing the Faith.

O Mary, conceived without sin, lead me to Jesus and teach me to do whatsoever He shall say.
Saturday remembrance
The Blessed Virgin Mary
Saturday is kept in filial remembrance of Our Lady, who remained faithful when Our Lord lay hidden in the tomb. Walk with Mary toward Jesus by imitating her faith, purity, recollection, and perseverance.
Intention
For growth in true devotion to Mary, the conversion of sinners, the protection of purity, and perseverance in the Catholic Faith.
A faithful act
Set the goal of praying the complete traditional Rosary today: all fifteen decades of the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. Offer it for a definite intention, especially for the conversion and salvation of sinners. If the duties of your state require it, pray its three parts at different hours, but persevere toward completing the whole Rosary. Souls are in need: at Fatima, Our Lady warned that many souls go to hell because there is no one to make sacrifices and pray for them.

Blessed Mother, keep me under thy mantle, receive this day into thy hands, and lead me in all things to Jesus.

At Rome, the holy martyrs Faustinus, Timothy, and Venustus. — In Africa, the holy martyrs Castus and 2Emilius, who consummated their martyrdom by fire. St. Cyprian says that they were overcome in the first combat, but in the second God made them victorious, so that, though at first yielding to the fire, they became finally stronger than the fire. — In Corsica, St. Julia, virgin, who won her crown by being crucified. — At Comana, in Pontus, under the emperor Maximian and the governor Agrippa, the holy martyr Basiliscus, who was forced to wear iron MAY.. 149 shoes pierced with heated nails, and endured many other trials. Being at last decapitated and thrown into a river, he obtained the glory of martyrdom. — In Spain, St. Quiteria, virgin and martyr. — At Ravenna, St. Marcian, bishop and confessor. — In the diocese of Auxerre, the abbot St. Romanus, who ministered to St. Benedict in his cave. The Octave of Pentecost
The fire of the Holy Ghost kept before the Church.
The privileged Octave of Pentecost prolongs the descent of the Holy Ghost, keeping the Church within the mystery of divine fire, truth, charity, and apostolic courage.
The octave teaches that Pentecost is not enthusiasm. The Spirit of truth strengthens the Church to confess Christ, keep His commandments, and carry doctrine to the nations.
A Catholic should ask for fire, but also for rule. The Holy Ghost does not make the soul vague, proud, or restless; He makes it clean, docile, courageous, and faithful to what Christ has taught.
Virtue to practice
Docility to the Spirit of truth.
Error to resist
The false appeal to the Spirit that excuses novelty, disorder, or disobedience to Christ's doctrine.
For the pilgrim in exile
Stay inside Pentecost. The exile needs fire, but it must be the fire of truth and charity, not the fever of novelty.
Imitate today
- Invoke the Holy Ghost before work and prayer.
- Choose truth over human respect.
- Ask for charity that strengthens obedience.
- Reject every impulse that disguises self-will as zeal.

Meditation
The Church Made Public
At Pentecost the Holy Ghost strengthened the apostles to preach Christ publicly and carry the Gospel to the nations. His work is not private excitement separated from doctrine, worship, and the authority Christ established. The faithful should ask Him for zeal that makes them more obedient to revealed truth, more constant in charity, and more courageous in Catholic witness.
