The Immaculate Heart of Mary is wholly ordered to God: pure, recollected, obedient, and steadfast beneath the Cross. Entrust this month to Our Lady and ask her to teach you to keep the words of Christ, hate sin, and remain faithful when fidelity costs you.

In reparation for offenses against Our Lady; for the conversion of sinners; and for purity, recollection, fidelity to Catholic truth, and perseverance beneath the Cross.

Receive this day from God.
At Pentecost the Holy Ghost strengthened the apostles to preach Christ publicly and carry the Gospel to the nations. His work is not private excitement separated from doctrine, worship, and the authority Christ established. The faithful should ask Him for zeal that makes them more obedient to revealed truth, more constant in charity, and more courageous in Catholic witness.
Ask the Holy Ghost to turn every truth learned about Our Lady into deeper discipleship, obedience, imitation, and union with Jesus.
Formation in True Devotion - Day 261: Review and Deepening: Formation of the Servants of Jesus and Mary
“I have now said many things about the most holy Virgin; but I have many more to say, and there are infinitely more which I shall omit, whether from ignorance, inability, or want of time, in the design which I have to form a true client of Mary, and a true disciple of Jesus Christ.”
St. Louis de Montfort's purpose is formation, not accumulation. Knowledge about Our Lady must produce a true client of Mary, and that client must be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Reading that increases vocabulary while leaving faith, worship, repentance, obedience, prayer, sacrifice, and charity unchanged has not yet fulfilled the design.
His admission that infinitely more remains unsaid teaches humility before the mystery of grace. Do not seek novelty as if devotion were mastered by information. Receive verified doctrine gratefully, meditate upon it, translate it into the whole rule of life, and return repeatedly until truth becomes stable conviction and embodied virtue.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord, show me the sins I excuse, the occasions I keep near, and the attachments I protect. Give me contrition without despair and amendment without delay.

Roman Martyrology, Notice for August 14
“For the defense of the Catholic faith [he] was shut up in a room of his own house by the Arian emperor Constantius, where constantly persevering in prayer for seven months, he rested in peace.”
- The Martyrology first announces the Vigil of the Assumption, placing preparation before the Church's celebration of Our Lady's heavenly triumph.
- It then remembers the priest St. Eusebius, confined in his own house by an Arian emperor because he defended the Catholic faith, and persevering there in prayer until death.

The vigil of the Assumption of the blessed Virgin Mary. — At Rome, the birthday of the blessed priest Eusebius, who for the defense of the Catholic faith was shut up in a room of his own house by the Arian emperor Cons tan tius, where constantly persevering in prayer for seven months, he rested in peace. The Vigil of the Assumption prepares the faithful to honor Our Lady taken body and soul into heavenly glory. The Roman calendar also commemorates St. Eusebius on this day.
A vigil teaches the soul to make room before a feast. The Catholic does not rush into mysteries as a spectator; he prepares by prayer, restraint, confession of truth, and a cleaner heart.
Use the vigil well. Do not approach Our Lady as a pleasant addition to a distracted life. Ask her to help you prepare, repent, and belong more completely to her Son.

Unity Without Truth Is Not Catholic Unity
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: Catholic unity is unity in the faith, sacraments, worship, and lawful order of the Church. It is not agreement to ignore contradiction. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. The Church unites by truth and grace; she cannot found unity on silence about error.
The grace to be practiced is Prepared Marian fidelity, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice docility by receiving Catholic teaching humbly and carrying its full demands into prayer, conduct, duty, and sacrifice.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist false ecumenism and every peace that asks doctrine to step aside. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing prepared Marian fidelity when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Accept the slow work by which knowledge must descend into habits, resisting vanity, novelty-seeking, and impatience with formation. Translate Marian doctrine into concrete discipleship through complete duty, resistance to sin, prayer, mortification, and works of charity.

The Pilgrim's Mirror
How shall I imitate Christ today?
“Then shall a good clean conscience make us more gladsome and merry than the cunning of all philosophy.”
At judgment, appearances will fall away and the soul will stand in truth before God. Learning, reputation, and skill have their proper uses, but none can replace a conscience purified by repentance and kept faithful through obedience.
Do not seek peace by avoiding examination. Ask the Holy Ghost to show you every matter that remains unsettled: sins requiring confession, injuries requiring forgiveness, restitution that can be made, or duties repeatedly postponed. A clean conscience is not sinlessness claimed by pride; it is the peace of a soul that refuses concealment and returns to grace.
Today's Practice
Settle every matter of conscience that can rightly be settled today, and prepare definitely to bring the rest to Confession.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Ask whether today's study formed a truer client of Mary and disciple of Jesus, and amend every gap between knowledge and life.
