A privileged call to reparation
First Friday: Reparation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
The first Friday of the month is a privileged invitation to answer the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with worthy Holy Communion, gratitude, perseverance, and reparation for coldness, sacrilege, and ingratitude toward Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist. Our Lord entrusted this school of reparative love to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, and the Church has fostered it as a powerful means of drawing souls back to His Heart.
The Great Promise of the Sacred Heart
In the canonization record of St. Margaret Mary, Pope Benedict XV recounts Our Lord's promise that those who receive Holy Communion on the first Friday for nine consecutive months will be granted the benefit of final repentance: they will not die in His displeasure or without the sacraments, and His Heart will be their secure refuge in the last hour. This promise should awaken confidence, perseverance, and a more faithful sacramental life.

The intention
For worthy Holy Communions, reparation for offenses against the Blessed Sacrament, the conversion of sinners, and a heart made meek, humble, pure, and obedient after the Heart of Jesus.
Answer the invitation today
When keeping the Nine First Fridays, prepare for worthy Holy Communion in the state of grace and offer it in reparation to the Sacred Heart. Let the nine months establish a continuing First Friday habit rather than mark an endpoint: after completing them, continue this reparative devotion whenever possible, answering the injuries of sin with lifelong gratitude, penance, and love. Whether or not Communion is possible today, make a reverent visit or spiritual Communion and offer hidden sacrifices in reparation.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Receive the prayer, sacrifice, and duty of this day in reparation for sin. Draw cold and wandering souls back to Thy truth, Thy altar, and Thy love, and make my heart obedient to Thine.

At Pentecost the Holy Ghost strengthened the apostles to preach Christ publicly and carry the Gospel to the nations. His work is not private excitement separated from doctrine, worship, and the authority Christ established. The faithful should ask Him for zeal that makes them more obedient to revealed truth, more constant in charity, and more courageous in Catholic witness.
Remember that you are perpetually bound and consecrated to Jesus Christ, and offer every faculty and duty to your Redeemer and Lord.
Formation in True Devotion - Day 279: Review and Deepening: Renewal of Holy Baptism
“The Catechism of the Council of Trent, the faithful interpreter of that holy Council, exhorts the parish-priests to do the same thing; and to induce the people to remember themselves, and to believe that they are bound and consecrated to our Lord Jesus Christ, as slaves to their Redeemer and Lord.”
Baptism establishes objective belonging, not a temporary spiritual preference. The Roman Catechism teaches the faithful to remember that they are bound and consecrated perpetually to Jesus Christ, their Redeemer and Lord. Redemption creates a just claim upon the whole person and a joyful debt of worship, obedience, gratitude, and love.
The language of slavery here opposes the cruel slavery of Satan with voluntary, loving dependence upon Christ. It never licenses human domination, abuse, or neglect of justice. Jesus is the divine Redeemer who purchased freedom from sin; belonging to Him orders every human authority and relationship beneath truth, charity, and His commandments.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord, keep my mind beneath the Church that is one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic. Do not let feeling, family custom, fear, or numbers replace Thy marks.

Hold the Traditions
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: Apostolic tradition is not nostalgia. It is the handing down of what the Church received from Christ and the Apostles. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Tradition protects the faithful from the tyranny of the present moment and from teachers who mistake novelty for life.
The grace to be practiced is Faithful obedience to the grace of the present day, drawn from the daily rule of fidelity. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice grateful dependence by obeying Christ's doctrine, worship, commandments, Providence, and rightful order throughout the whole life.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist innovation that claims continuity while contradicting what was handed down. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing faithful obedience to the grace of the present day when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Surrender the illusion of spiritual independence whenever preference, appetite, pride, or worldly opinion resists the Redeemer's claim. Use freedom as Christ's possession: reject sin, fulfill justice, honor obligations, serve souls, and submit every choice to His sovereignty.

How shall I imitate Christ today?
“It behoveth thee to break thine own will in many things, if thou wilt have peace and concord with others.”
Concord bought by surrendering truth is false, but many quarrels arise from preference rather than principle. Yield what belongs to self-will while holding fast what belongs to God.
Learn to distinguish the two before the moment of conflict. Doctrine, purity, justice, and necessary duty may require firmness. Your preferred method, timing, recognition, or last word usually does not. The soul becomes strong when it stops spending zeal upon the defense of self.

Yield harmless preferences cheerfully whenever truth and duty do not require firmness.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Examine whether the day reflected perpetual consecration to the Redeemer or practical independence from His rights and commands.
