As Advent prepares the Church for the Nativity, the Immaculate Conception displays God's victorious preparation of the Mother of the Redeemer. Ask for hatred of sin, purity of heart, and readiness to receive Christ.

The Blessed Virgin Mary
Saturday is kept in filial remembrance of Our Lady, who remained faithful when Our Lord lay hidden in the tomb. Walk with Mary toward Jesus by imitating her faith, purity, recollection, and perseverance.
Intention
For growth in true devotion to Mary, the conversion of sinners, the protection of purity, and perseverance in the Catholic Faith.
A faithful act
Set the goal of praying the complete traditional Rosary today: all fifteen decades of the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. Offer it for a definite intention, especially for the conversion and salvation of sinners. If the duties of your state require it, pray its three parts at different hours, but persevere toward completing the whole Rosary. Souls are in need: at Fatima, Our Lady warned that many souls go to hell because there is no one to make sacrifices and pray for them.

Blessed Mother, keep me under thy mantle, receive this day into thy hands, and lead me in all things to Jesus.
Good Morning, Pilgrim
Receive this day from God.
The Holy Innocents could not speak Christ's Name, yet they died because the world feared His kingship. Their feast forbids a shallow Christmas that ignores innocent suffering, and it entrusts afflicted children to the justice and mercy of God. Pray and act for children endangered by violence, impurity, neglect, or false teaching.
Honor Our Lady as Queen beneath Christ the King and ask for the profound humility that submits every power to God.

“Mary commands in the heavens the Angels and the Blessed. As a recompense for her profound humility, God has given her the power and permission to fill with Saints the empty thrones from which the apostate angels fell by pride.”
Mary's queenship is received, not self-created. God exalts the humble Virgin who called herself His handmaid, while the proud angels lost their thrones through revolt. Her authority manifests His victory and remains wholly subject to the King from whom it comes.
The road toward the vacant thrones is therefore not ambition but humility under grace. Renounce the desire to govern what God has not entrusted to you. Rule your passions, obey His law, serve souls, accept obscurity, and allow Our Lady to conduct you by the low road her Son chose.

Offer the day before spending it
Prayer gives the day its right beginning and its right end. Before work, conversation, news, or distraction claims the mind, adore the Blessed Trinity and offer every prayer, work, joy, suffering, and temptation to Jesus through Mary. Ask your Guardian Angel for help, and place the souls and needs entrusted to you beneath God's will.
Begin simply. Make the Morning Offering through the hands of Our Lady. Pray the Three Hail Marys for purity and final perseverance, ask your Guardian Angel to govern the senses and imagination, and name the soul or intention for which today's prayers and sacrifices will be offered. Do not rush these acts merely because they are familiar; let them place the whole day beneath God before the world begins to claim it.
O Lord, through the Holy Innocents, protect suffering children, convert those who harm them, and make me courageous in their defense.

St. Jerome, Priest, Commentary on St. Matthew
“He took the young Child, and His mother, and fled into Egypt.”
- The Breviary places the Holy Innocents before the Church as the first tender victims slain because Herod sought the Saviour's life.
- St. Jerome reads the flight into Egypt and return as a mystery of light for the Gentiles and future mercy for the Jews.
- The lamentation of Rachel teaches that the coming of Christ is opposed by worldly power from the beginning, yet innocent suffering is gathered beneath God's altar.
Protect innocence and refuse Herod's logic. The weak are never expendable before Christ, and grief must become prayer, protection, and fidelity.

Seventh Lesson - The Flight into Egypt
At that time: The angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying: Arise, and take the young Child, and His mother, and flee into Egypt; and be thou there until I bring thee word. And so on.
He took the young Child, and His mother, and fled into Egypt, by night and in darkness; and the darkness of that night was a figure of the darkness of ignorance in which they left the unbelievers from whom they fled. But when they returned into Judaea, we learn not from the Gospel that it was by night, or in darkness; which is an image of that light which will lighten the Jews, when, at the end of the world, they shall receive back the faith, which now lighteneth the Gentiles, even as Judaea received Christ returning from Egypt.
Eighth Lesson - Out of Egypt Have I Called My Son
"That it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying: Out of Egypt have I called My Son." Those who go about to deny the authority of the Hebrew Scriptures, ask where any such passage is to be found in the Septuagint. But, although they find it not there, I tell them that the fact of its being written in the Prophet Hosea (xi. 1) can be proved by the texts which I have lately published.
Ninth Lesson - Rachel Weeping for Her Children
"Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the Prophet, saying; In Rama was there a voice heard, weeping and great mourning; Rachel weeping for her children." The child of Rachel was Benjamin, and Bethlehem is not a town belonging to his tribe. We must therefore seek another reason why Rachel should weep for the children of Judah, to whom Bethlehem belongeth, as for her own. The plain answer is that she is buried at Ephrath close to Bethlehem, and she is called Mother on account of the resting-place of her earthly tabernacle being there. It is possible also that she is called Mother because the tribes of Judah and Benjamin were joined together, and Herod slew not only all the children that were in Bethlehem, but also in all the coasts thereof.

In Bethlehem, of Juda, the birthday of the Holy Innocents, who were massacred for Christ by king Herod. — At Ancyra, in Galatia, the holy martyrs Eutychius, priest, and Domitian, deacon. — In Africa, the birthday of the holy martyrs Castor, Victor and Rogatian. — At Nicomedia, the holy martyrs Indes, eunuch, Domna, Agapes and Theophila, virgins, and their companions, who, after long combats, attained to the crown of martyrdom by various kinds of death during the persecution of Diocletian. — At Neocaesarea, in Pontus, St. Troadius, martyr, in the persecution of Decius. This Gospel corrects a danger that can quietly deform Catholic judgment: The hard doctrine of power that treats the weak as expendable. Ask where that danger seeks your consent today, and answer it with the act Our Lord requires.

Their feast teaches the horror of innocent blood and the mystery of witness borne through suffering. They belong to Christ not by words, but by blood shed because of Him.

Doctrine Develops Without Becoming Another Doctrine
Remain here for a little while. The purpose is not to gather another fact, but to allow today's Catholic truth to judge the heart, strengthen the will, and become an act offered to God.
The Church places this truth before you today: True growth in Catholic doctrine preserves the same meaning and the same judgment; it unfolds what was received, without changing the faith into a novelty. Do not hurry past it as though doctrine belonged only to books and controversies. A revealed truth is also a light by which the soul must judge its loyalties, its fears, its habits, and the duties immediately before it. Unity of faith is protected when later expression remains identical in substance with what the Church has always taught.
The grace to be practiced is Protection of innocence, drawn from today's saintly witness. Ask God for more than the natural appearance of this virtue. Temperament may make an action seem easy for a time, but supernatural virtue remains faithful because God is worthy of obedience, even when feeling offers no assistance and no one notices the cost. Practice humility in thought, speech, correction, service, prayer, and the faithful use of whatever authority you possess.
There is also an enemy to recognize: Resist the modernist notion that dogma may change its meaning according to the religious needs of an age. Do not study this danger only in other people. Look quietly for the door by which it seeks entrance into your own soul - perhaps through delay, curiosity, resentment, human respect, attachment to comfort, or the desire to control the outcome. Dying to self today means choosing protection of innocence when pride, comfort, fear, resentment, or human respect asks for control.
Do the faithful act and entrust its fruit to divine Providence, God's wise and loving governance of all things. Place effort and outcome into Our Lady's hands so that the whole offering may be presented to her Divine Son. Confidence in God is not passivity: obey, pray, work, and accept that visible success, consolation, or immediate relief may not be given. God remains faithful when the duty is hidden and the outcome uncertain. Therefore, perform the duty that belongs to you, use the lawful means God has provided, and then surrender the fruit. Receive being overlooked, contradicted, or assigned lowly work without feeding resentment or seeking revenge. Exercise responsibilities as a stewardship from God, serve those beneath your care, and obey every rightful authority in all lawful things.

How shall I imitate Christ today?
“The most noble and the most perfect victory is for a man to have the victory of himself.”
Victory over others can feed pride; victory over self-will makes room for Christ. Ask for the grace to conquer the fault that most often conquers you.
Choose the fault by its frequency, not by how dramatic it appears. The repeated impatient tone, indulgent thought, delayed prayer, or unnecessary complaint may govern more of life than a rare great trial. Meet it today at its first small demand, while grace makes refusal possible.

Choose the harder faithful act once, quietly and at once.
Before Night Falls
Return the completed day to God.
Give thanks before measuring the day by feeling or visible success. Ask light to see faults without discouragement, make an Act of Contrition, forgive injuries, and place tomorrow beneath divine Providence.
Search for the pride that sought notice, control, exemption, or superiority, and place it beneath the feet of the humble Queen.

Go Now, Pilgrim
Walk faithfully. Pray attentively. Bear your cross willingly. Love God above all things.

You do not walk alone: remain beside the Blessed Virgin as she leads you toward her Divine Son and the Heavenly Jerusalem.
