Historicism
Watchtower of Errors: doctrines named clearly from the safety of truth so they can be resisted.
Historicism makes truth subject to historical conditions, as though doctrine were a product of its age rather than revelation from God. It surrounds truth with context until begins to feel naive.
What This Error Does
It imprisons the Faith inside time. Condemnations become temporary, dogmas become cultural language, miracles become community memory, and saints become products of their age.
remembers what God revealed. explains revelation away as historical development and lets the scholar's method become a tribunal over God.
How To Respond
Use history rightly as a servant. Study facts, documents, and contexts, but refuse to let history judge divine revelation. Revealed truth judges history.
