9. Modernism and False Obedience

True Obedience Has An Object

Catholic is not servility. It is a moral ordered to legitimate and ultimately to God. in exists for the truth Christ entrusted to His . It does not exist to manufacture another faith, alter , or compel souls to accept contradiction.

The faithful owe to lawful commands within the order established by God. They do not owe to the destruction of the Faith. No can command a soul to believe that truth changes meaning, that becomes pastoral, that false worship becomes safe, or that condemned principles become Catholic because they have been clothed in official language.

How Modernism Uses Authority-Language

often keeps the language of while weakening the purpose of . It speaks of unity, submission, listening, communion, pastoral governance, and trust. These words can be holy when ordered rightly. They become dangerous when they are used to protect ambiguity, novelty, or betrayal.

The modernist spirit says: the process, the development, the new interpretation, the pastoral direction, the that tells you not to notice rupture. The Catholic spirit says: serves the deposit. It has no right to make the faithful accomplices in the corruption of meaning.

This is why the Oath Against matters. It binds the mind to revelation, , Scripture, , and 's divine constitution before any modern pressure can rename contradiction as .

The Accusation Of Pride

When the faithful refuse modernist contradiction, they are often accused of . The accusation can wound sincere souls. They ask whether they are becoming rebellious, judgmental, or self-willed.

is necessary. is dangerous. But does not require a man to deny what has already taught. A Catholic is not because he refuses to call mutation development, ambiguity depth, or contradiction continuity.

The man makes himself the rule. The faithful man receives the rule from 's prior teaching and refuses to surrender it to novelty.

The Catholic Safeguard

The safeguard is to keep inside the whole Catholic order. belongs with faith, hope, , , , doctrine, worship, and the salvation of souls. It cannot be isolated and then used as a club against the rest.

Ask what a command is serving. Does it protect the Faith or obscure it? Does it strengthen worship or deform it? Does it lead souls to repentance, , and truth, or to comfortable coexistence with error?

makes sheep easy to manage. True makes saints.
